Be nice to a newbie... wait, no... let me have it
I would appreciate any input anyone might have on my site at http://www.buyershaven.com. I have had the site for a year, and have learned a lot. Considering a almost complete re-vamp. Please tell me the site doesn't need it and I should just tweak a few things. OH, and per the rules (I did read them) the terms that I would like to achieve the highest ranking with would include; hearing aid batteries, hearing aid repair, and hearing aid supplies. There are others, but I do ok already with those.

Hi, I think your site is on the right track, but could use some tweaking. Here are my thoughts.
1. From looking at the source, I'd guess you used some sort of tool (maybe frontpage?) to create the site. I say this because I see a lot of unnecessary code that just distracts from allowing search engines to do their job. Now if you aren't HTML savvy, then perhaps you'll have to stick with what you've got, but stripping out a lot of the unnecessary stuff such as <!--msnavigation--> would help with the seo. 2. In the same vein as number 1, moving from having tons of font tags, to a simpler CSS-based page would have the same positive effect for search engines not having to muddle through tons of code to get to the meat of your page. 3. Design wise - on the home page - the information presented there is a little jumbled. I would recommend not having all the text centered and I would organize the information there better. Somehow organize it so that the reader can see the logical flow of each thing you are saying. Perhaps by using a <H1> tag before each grouping, which would also be a plus for Search engines, if you include your keywords in the tags. Notice how your FAQ page flows nicely? The eye sees each section as a logical separation from the others? That's kind of what I'm talking about. I don't mean organize the home page exactly like the FAQ page, but if after you re-organize it, the users' eyes can differentiate between each *thought*, then the user will be more likely to really look at what you are saying. 4. When you click on More Products Coming, from the home page nav bar, you get a double nav bar. Just need to fix that. 5. Your site map is good. Nice and clean looking. (If you take care of problems number 1 and 2, then the source will be cleaner as well, which will aid the search engines also). That's the only things I see that I would recommend as being really necessary. Of course, just a generally, new, fresh design wouldn't hurt, but if you were looking more for must-haves, then those are my suggestions.

Thank you much for your insight... have made most of the changes you suggested, however, you are correct, I do use FrontPage. I might be able to get by without it, but not comfortable enough yet. It does add a lot of unnecessary code, but every time I try to remove it, the fonts all go wacky on me. I will have to learn a little more HTML before I take on that endeavour. I did just learn HTML by teaching myself a little under a year ago, and still need lots of practice before I move onto other types of script. I have used some basis javascript, but I do mean really basic!
Thanks again for your time! |
