The web is very dynamic in nature, when publishing a book, it could potentially be "outdated" in a day or two.

You would be better off reading here and many other places for the most current news about SEO. This is the way that many of us have "learned" the biz.

faygo read read and read some more, books can be good but by their very nature bits can be outdated, so try books yeah but read from the net mostly and soak it all up.

You can easily do most of what is required in terms of SEO yourself by reading/learning then doing. Your market seems quite niche so I think you could do it yourself and save your cash. It will help you better understand SEO aswell, if you later decide to use a SEO company.

Buy ten different SEO books and read ALL of them. Go to all of the web tutorials on SEO and read all of them.

Now you have a base to begin your experiments and asking good questions.

You use them in both places, as I understand it. You also use them in page titles, as anchor text for links, and several other places. Look around and you'll find articles that are specifically devoted to keywords, both how to choose them and how to use them.

Lots of stuff does nothing, and lots of stuff does very little... so focus your learning curve on these "2" things:
1. title elements <title></title>

2. links [quality links]

There is still alot to know in those 2 finite topics but if you ignore all the "every little bit helps BS" and the learning you'll need for those... you can create 90% of the ranking impact with only 10% of the learning curve!
