Results of Social Bookmarking Test OUT !!

Hello Friends,

Following up on GaryTheScubaGuys post on SBM and it's effect on SEO, I ran a couple of tests myself to see how things work.

I bookmarked a few of my sites in some social bookmarking sites like Delicious, BlueDot, Simpy, Technorati, BlinkList, Stumble Upon as well as on the Google toolbar bookmarks (though I am somewhat skeptical on its effect on a site's ranking)

Anyways, as I was conducting this experiment to test the effects of SBM on a site's organic listing, I thought of even including the Google toolbar bookmark as well

The sites I bookmarked are in somewhat competitive sectors such as online games, celebrities and entertainment, poker, B2B and cosmetic websites.

The bookmark link at nowpublic showed up really fast in Google and in fact outranked by existing listing. Though I feel that my user ID has been banned in nowpublic, coz they somehow thought that I was trying to spam.

Nevertheless, I still have 5-6 SBM sites running my bookmarks.

Within the first week, I noticed dramatic increase in the online gaming website with ranks going from 18 to 12 (homepage - containing most important keywords), though I see a dip in the ranking of late, I believe it's just a flux. Other internal pages went from 100+ to 12 and some even made their way to the top for some low to medium competitive keywords.

Another exciting observation I made was with the B2B marketing website, who ranks went from 108 to 38 ; 118 to 48 ; from 21 to 1 and the most significant, from 167 to 3. (all the ranks are in Google and in a span of just one week)

Here just let me tell you that while I was conducting this experiment, I didn't build any link to my websites just to check the sole effect that these SBM sites had over my sites.

So based on my experimentation and the results I got, I'd say that this thing surely works.

Friends, do this test yourself and take full advantage of the social bookmarking sites, before this gets played out.

Good Luck friends

Hi Dansk,

Yes! First you register at these bookmarking sites, download their toolbars (use firefox) and then just bookmark your pages on those.

Make sure that the targeted keyword resides on the title and description of the pages that you bookmark.

Try this with your internal pages first which targets some low to moderately competitive keywords/ key phrases.

Putting the SBM links on your articles and pages is a good method to get more votes on those sites.

I have seen a big advantage in traffic. On my most competetive broadband term I have gone from 83rd to 77th from writing one article and SBMing it.
I have made some other changes to and it is steadily climbing but I atrbitue the majority of that to SBMing.

Thanks for your findings mate! I figured from Gary's post that it did actually work, however it is nice to see different users posting their results as you can see it work for different industries/niches.

I really haven't taken advantage of the SMB sites like I should, been too busy with other stuff, I really should just for the presence it gives.

tags are keywords for which you want your site to appear in Delicious.

Pages that are bookmarked on social bookmarking sites, seems to receive a boost in the Google SERP.

Bookmark some of your internal pages on atleast 4-5 social bookmarking sites and make sure to note down the current ranks of the pages that you're bookmarking.

2 weeks down the line, compare your results and post your findings here.

There version ways of using this... it isn't just add your domain [bookmark] and that's it... additionally each social bookmark source is different and you are best to incorporate all into your strategy...

Social bookmarking "do-it-yourself" is alot of work PLUS you you got to spend time developing new content y=or you are just wasting time promoting yourself in this manner without getting any return.

You will want to review the help section at Del.icio.us -- you can't expect the member to read for you...

Also good to get involved in with Digg, Spurl, Blink, Furl, Simpy, MyWeb, Dot This, Stumble, and many others...

This is more about what bookmark resource your daily traffic uses and getting them to "bookmark something they found useful" than you attemtping to bookmark yourself (although there is value in you doing that as well -- but it's not a site thing but a "useful page" thing.

I'll try to get together with other members to deliver a "just copy and paste code" for all major bookmark sites -- but don't wait for us to read the "help section of del"... it answers everything.

I am just going to give my opinon on this seeing as it's here. I am not an SEO expert such as many of you but I am learning. With the SBM it does do a fantastic job of bringing in traffic for a temporary time frame.

Unless you continue to find stuff that users will vote for or find interesting than your submissions will lose power to them and traffic will decline. At least this is what I have noticed.

I think it is great for two things. Getting some extra backlinks for a small site who needs them. Great for a large site that is established enough to keep making the effort at producing new submissions to these SBM's

Again I am new, and learning but I have been make the attempt with teh SBM for almost 4 mths now and just things I have noticed.
