Forum Signatures for traffic
WARNING TO NEW MEMBERS! PLEASE READ OR SUFFER A BAN! - Welcome to SEOCHAT, we are glad you found this forum HOWEVER this thread is not an introduction thread nor is it a general Q/A on SEO so unless your comment is directly related to the experiment at hand DO NOT post here. We are craking down on spam in this thread and you risk a ban should you not heed this message. Thank you on behalf of the Moderation team!
~Visio Well I think there have been enough tests to determine the effect of forum signatures on ranking. Its up to everyone to look at the evidence and decide for themselves whether its a tactic worth using. I know where I stand! I personally have never used this tactic but have always been curiouse as to how much traffic this would generate from people clicking the link. To test this I have created a small site and will be adding the link to my sig. As soon as I have some consistent traffic data I will post my findings. To test this more thoroughly I will be signing up to a couple of other SEO forums to see if traffic levels vary depending on post count and quality of responce. Out of interest did you track traffic? I suppose it would be low due to the anchor text, I have tried to make mine relevant to the forum so will see. |

Great stuff, I like to see qunatative testing with dedicated sites and controlled data.
FYI, my sig link generates around 1500 unique visits per year with 3.59 pages / visit, avg time on site of 3:54 and a bounce rate of 41.6%. The site average is 3.03 pages / visit, 3:05 time on site and 56.97% bounce rate. One thing I have noted on many sites is that relevant industry related directories (high quality onces) get much better usability - to around 20% bounce rate. I will be very interested to see the results. Notes on my data. Even when I am not posting traffic comes from old posts and links to old posts. I definately notice that when I do a good post I get a lot of traffic and if I post on a specific topic it also gets links to a relevant page on my site. I think sig linking in relevant forums definately has good value.

Forum Signatures for traffic
In my own experience.. forum signature is one of the good way to generate traffic, but it still depends on the forum you are joined with.. if they are do follow..

It does not matter if the links are nofollow if all you are looking to gain is traffic. |

I'm looking forward to seeing the results of this experiment. In my opinion, sites should be looking for traffic and conversions, and I've seen far too many cases where it's assumed that a high ranking in Google is just about the only way to get that. From what I've read, forum sigs are discounted by Google, yet in theory could produce a lot of traffic...or even a small amount of traffic with high conversions.

I think it depends very heavily on the quality of your posts and your ratings as a user, but traffic is only good if it converts some how. Will seo forum users be interested in your website that you link?
If you are selling baby dolls in your signature link you may see now clicks, but if you had an seo blog with great content you might see that your signature links work wonders. |

@tstolber - that's quite some traffic but do you consider it worth it keeping in mind the time you spent in writing all those posts?

IMHO traffic from forums depend mainly on 2 factors: 1. The credibility of the poster. 2. The relevance of the signature link with the general interest of the community A link pointing towards a new SEO tool from a post in SEOchat will get a lot more hits and probably a lot more conversions compared to a link to a baby shoe website.
