While I like the idea of this experiment (in general, SEO experiments ar a thrill to me), and I agree that this forum has a tremendous power for temporarily promoting things (and hey, what a tremendous crawl speed, things get indexed and fly to the first page of G00gle immediately!), I don't think the experiment makes much sense as stated. I agree with those who have pointed out that relevance (excuse me, I mean relevancy ah, ah, ah) is important.
More specifically, so how high in the SERPs you should up depends on how optimized your post is:
-- It's absolutely awesome that the Forum automates the URL and the title tag, which are both based on the post subject.
-- Secondly (and I have observed this a bit, though it's too hard to quantify reliably, there being too many fluid intangible factors), the amount of content and the keyword density matter as to how high on the first page you up
-- I feel that the content of the first post is more relevant than the subsequent posts -- not, I assume, because big ranks us based on post number, but probably simply because the stuff is at the top of the page and therefore given more importance
Just my three cents. This is a great resource to test such things out!
