Word Tracker vs. Adwords

what do you use for determining which keyword to target before optimizing?

I believe wordtracker.com is the most reliable source, since it uses meta search engines.

I started using Adwords for 2 weeks now. Today, I make comparisons between adwords stats(# of impressions) and wordtracker.

wordtracker is somewhat ok, but not perfect.

from now on, I decided to spend ~10 dollars on Adwords to see what people actually search.

Hmm, I sometimes use adwords for keyword research, but I only get the clicks figure. It used to be the case where ad impressions were shown but not anymore, at least not from the urls I use.

There again I've not got a adwords campaign running at the moment so you probably get more details if you have a campaign running.

Below is the info I'm getting...

Keyword Clicks per day
werkzeug 97
werkzeuge 44
schrauben 19
Silikon 16
baustoffe 16

Still pretty useful of course :-)

I think the trick is to use all of them to a degree. AdWords is good for some industries & Overture is googd for others, although I'm not sure I believe they figures they quote.

Thus far the best tool I've used for looking up alternate keywords is my brain!! If I can't think of them, then they are probably not all that popular!!

Ther eis actually a good tool called Advanced email extractor. it sounds like just another email extractor for spam purposes. It doers however a very fine "module addon" which is a meta keyword and description addoon. You show the program a directory listing on yahoo or dmoz and it will crawl the pages and extract and consolidate the keta keywords. Of course competition web sites are also a great rersource for inspiration on keywords so it is quite useful. There is also btw, a keyword look up not mentioned which is better imo than overture as it doesnt have the same stemming problems...

Is in my opinion better than the overture tool.

There is a tool btw, from a major German Meta search engine called MetaGer, which is also great for finding keywords. It is called the Web-Assoziator. Primarily for German keywords but it may well help for english too.

But you're right, you cant beat the "brain-cell-associator" :-)
The tools do help a fair bit though in at öleast getting a list of possibles.

Overture btw I know inflate their figures by 5%. This slipped out once during a conversation with one of their staff.

Why using Overture

I think there is no good reason to use Overture, because they don't include the results from google or they make a irrelevant calculation of it.
And while most people search with Google, I suggest use the Adwords tool!
