Useful Perl Scripts??

I got thinking earlier after reading this topic. I am planning on writing some useful perl scripts which this community and others will find helpful.

Can anyone thing of some relatively simple scripts that I should get started on? I don't want to go down the road of writing entire bulletin board forums and the such. Perhaps mailing list scripts of contact form scripts. Anyone need such a script with specific requirements???

Darrin whats happened to spyder trax?

Hello Darrin

A script I have always wanted was a script that would allow me to manually submit to all the search engines, I could put all the details each search engine rquires and when i submit those details would be sent as well. Then to place a search term in a text box and search all those same search engines for the results.

Asking a bit much but thats what Ive wanted. Darrin whats happening with spydertrax?

automated search engine submission scripts and automated searching scripts are just a bad idea. . . .

Google (and probably others) have been known to ban sites that utilize them. . .

I subscribed to Web Techiques for the full duration of that publication's life...great resource, sorry it's gone...and I always anticipated with much excitement Randall Schwartz's monthly regular "Programming with Perl"...

It seems to me that the real trick with Perl is to be able to find the right mod or set of mods for the right situation and then "glue" or "sew" it in with some scripting....I don't think one has to write from scratch...a full blown Perl App...with that said...here's what I would like to see....

I would love to have a couple of scripts (or find the right mods) that handle parts one and two of an online membership registration process. In the first part, and individual comes into the system through the registration process and once "submit" is hit a record is immediately created. The second part is when the credit card is approved or the check clears then the new member is given access to the full membership area....

These modules will directly access the MySql database. The first one will create a record and the second one will modify that record to allow access to the directory. In the case of a successful credit card purchase number two will happen straight after number one and in the case of a check it will happen after the check has cleared....

I am digging through CPAN as we speak looking for the correct solution to this situation....that's my wish for today...back to work..

tracking outbound jumps

<a href="http://www.targetsite.com/index.html" onclick="kill=window.open('trackit.html','','width=0 height=0 status=0 resizable=0 menubar=0 directories=0 location=0'); kill.close()">the text link</a>

When the user clicks the link to targetsite, you will also (briefly) open trackit.html, which you can track as an outbound jump.

Now if only I could get trackit to open in the background...

Proposed PERL Project (PPP)

I need the capability of detaching an image (.jpg or .gif) from an email and storing it in another folder under program control. And then processing the email for posting on a Bulletin Board System. The posting should include links to the detached image.
