Flash Optimizing
This may just be a stupid brain fart, but I've been thinking about whether it might be possible to build some sort of export/rewrite engine using amfphp for text output and GD for image outputs. It wouldn't be able to optimize a flash site itself, per se, but would act as an engine that processed flash files and rewrote them as some sort of SE readable page. It may be much more trouble than its worth, but would essentially automate html mirroring for flash-based sites.
Could anyone who's very familiar with amfphp or GD comment on whether this might be possible? |

At the moment, this isn't totally nessacary. As far as images go, SE's read the information from ALT tags, and use these, so i fyou've go tthese tags set up right, there's no point doing anything else because you've done it the right way to start off with.
As far as Flash sites go, these are a little more difficult. Google can read some information and keywords from Flash files, but it won't read everything the way that it's seen to users. It's improving all the time though. But to be hoenst, if someone wants to use a Flash site, they are more concerned with appearance and glitz then they are with useability and SEO, so form my point of view, it's hard to say that there's a lot of value to be put into trying to use techniques such as these for optimisation |

I beg to differ. Flash sites need "optimizing" too, and we all know the only way to really do this is to create an html mirror and direct the spiders to it. A piece of software like this would essentially automate a substantial part of the mirroring process. I just wanted to know if it's possible from a coding standpoint.

As Google adn other SE's get better at reading and interpreting the information that's stored in a Flash SWF file, mirroring will end up causing duplicate content problems if you do it as you've suggested.
Noteably, this may be some time away, but don't kid yourself, it will happen. As far as a software solution goes, what you've suggested will work, but it's a whole lot of work for what may be marginal results. How much better your results will be depends on a lot of factors, including duplication, titles, meta tags and more. There is more then just Flash to get up there in the SERPS. |
