Count folder images and display number

is there a simple script that i can use on one page to count all the image files in each directory directory and then display that number on my homepage?

Like I have 50 images in my "images" folder, i want the number
of images to show up "50". when i include another image
in that images folder the number changes to 51 and so on. i would prefer php script.
