Working our Market Share
Hi guys,
For pre campaign evaluations we have been approximately working out market share for a while now. The keyword here is 'approximately' - We are based in the UK and are wondering how other people work out market share for clients. One method we use it to source the relevant keywords from overture UK (Overture UK has 85% UK market reach) and then other resources (which make us the final 15%) - This data gives us a good indication of traffic a client can expect if there positioned in the top results of SE listings. How do you guys do it? i'm interesting in moving our processes forward. Thanks for any help in advance. |

Hi
I have no hard and fast data but I too use the fact that overture (UK) has about 85% of total searches. This does not mean, however that this is the amount of traffic that the client will recieve even if they are #1 in the SERPs. I would say the real number is probably only about 33% of this if placed in the #1 position. It is generaly excepted that a large majority of people refine their search after their initial search, making the search figures slightly less comparable to actual traffic recieved. The deciding factor on wether someone clicks on your result in the SERPs is also laregly dependant on how the title reads (which you have a lot of control over) and how the decription reads (which you have less control over). One thing I don't do is give estimates or guarantees, just an indication. As any good SEO knows - there are no guarantees. |
