What would you pay?

I am looking at purchasing a site that is listed in DMOZ and is a PR 4 with hardly any traffic. Regardless of industry, what would be the most you would consider paying if you're really going to have to SEO the site anyway? I know someone will ask, so the domain is about 3 years old, but that wasn't my focus. The age and traffic were trivial, it was the content and DMOZ listing was just a big bonus. I suppose I want to present a respectable offer....

Thanks for your feedback.

mmmmmmmmmmmm,, how long is a piece of string?

Without examining the domain i would not be upset at paying $100 for it (us).
Probably wouldnt go much higher than that though.

IMO the value of a site should be based upon the backlinks that will stay in place after the deal is done plus the appeal of the domain name. If they have extensive content you could add a little extra.

However, the theme of the site would also important if I were buying. Some themes are VERY commercial and some are noncommercial (but you still might make a little money from them).

Personally the PR4 doesn't have me salivating - unless the links in include a few .edu or .gov which IMO give you a better ranking boost for the PR - or if it has links from lots of different domains - which stay after the deal.

So, I guess I need more info but from what you have told I might pay at max $1000 - unless the content was superfantastic linkmagnet.

Thank you for the quick comments! I like Micks $100 bucks better...lol No edu or .gov. Site only has DMOZ going for it as not much for back links. The content is what I wanted really, the DMOZ listing means I use that domain instead of the one I had planned. Which is all good provided I don't lose the DMOZ listing at change of ownership. Some editor may see my name in the "Whois" and match it with their "Kill his site" list..(which would be my luck for sure!)..lmbo! <edit again - I'm just kidding about the editors..lol... - end edit again>

So, gonna offer $350 and what happens. <edit - yes...I am that CHEAP!...lol.. - end edit>

Thanks for the super fast response!

With affiliate marketing in my mind, I would pay between 300-500$.
DMOZ listing will assure much valuable back links without effort.

Just my 2 cents

Sounds a bit like my older site GC. Keep in mind that one of my inner pages has a PR5 - LOL.

For 350 bucks I'll send you a nice postcard as well Just as long as you keep my regulars (=bookmarks) happy...

I would pay $0 and upwards depending the following factors:

- The amount and age of the backlinks
- The PR
- The domain name
- The number of unsolicited backlinks
- The overall quality of the website
- Is or was there a well though through development plan for the site? Has there been a focus on web standards?
- Could the site be used to help out an existing client or another site in the portifolio?

If you are thinking of offering 350$ I would cut that down to $300 and negotiate up to 350. Its never easy buying from someone who didnt have it in their mind to sell in the first place - They'll always want a bit more. So if you've bid at 350 and unless its totally unexpected and welcomed on their part...expect to be paying around 400

good luck with it!
