What are all of the certifications out there and which are the best to have?

I know Google and Yahoo both have their own PPC certifications for individuals or companies. What are the most repsecte SEO / SEM / PPC certifications out there? How difficult are they to get? What do they costs? Who has them? ...ect.

Thanks!

Well, actually real world experience is what counts most. Actually achieving results that you can document and show off. But it all starts with reading, which I don't think you do. Since you posted a live link which is against the rules of this forum.

Back to my point: I'm much more impressed with 50K visitors and a 20% conversion rate than I am with a piece of paper.

you make a good point. I made that mistake when I was stating out. I thought I had all thebasics down and I even thought of adding the Google Adwords certification to my portfolio, but when it came down to it, I hardly knew what I needed. What you can do with a site is much more important.

If you can give website "case studies" that shows your improved rankings for a few websites, then that is better than any training.

Its a little like college...
In a job interview... If someone has a degree versus someone who can give me results, I'd much rather have the person that can get results than a piece of paper.

...I'm finish my last term in college this fall.. I've spent the last 4 years learning about online marketing and SEO, which is much better than a college degree in my mind!

The adsense proffesionls one is a good one to have.
People just take it on face value but there are `incentives` that are rarely mentioned which you find out after the qualification.

The answer to the question really hinges on the context surrounding the question. Why was it asked?

If the idea is to apply for a job, if you have no experience, a piece of paper is of limited value. If you have some experience, the paper can give you an 'edge' over competitors with similar experience and no training. If you have lots of experience, the paper may add a little academic credibility, but will be far overshadowed by the experience (but again, if you're competing for a job with someone with similar experience, the training can give you that edge).

If your question is asked out of just sheer curiosity, then the answer is it doesn't matter what you have unless you just like having them, then get whatever you feel like.

But if your seeking to learn SEO, they may provide a basic start, but using this forum, SEOMoz.com, and doing your own SEO (practice) will be more beneficial to you.

My bad about the live link. It's just that I see many live links in signatures and thought is was ok. Shame on me for having not gone and read the forum rules first.

By the way, what's the difference between my posting a link manually and someone having a whole army of them in their signature? Just curious - no sarcasm intended.

This should explain the thinking behind restrictions on live links/forum signatures:

From the General FAQ thread:
http://forums.seochat.com/showthread.php?p=177559#post177559

Quote:
Linking to external content in general is not permitted. Any live links may be removed at the discretion of the Moderator.

From: http://forums.seochat.com/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_new_faq_item2

Quote:
We are starting a new policy in order to facilitate more contributions from YOU, our users. Until a user has 100 posts, you will have 'restricted' access. No avatars, signatures or Custom titles. We want to encourage our users, if you want Avatars or any other kind of "Treat" to contribute first. We have also instituted a policy for -all- users regardless of post count, where a signature will only show once per page, per thread. - All of this is already implemented, thanks for making our forums the excellent community they have become! It has come to the attention of the mods and admins, that users have been posting spam and unwarranted posts just to get the next level of access. We have added a new stipulation to the 100 post rule. You also have to be a user for 90 days. This change is also retroactive, so all users that are under the 90 days will be lowered to registered status. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but as usual the few rotten apples ruin a good thing.
