web designers - why do they hate seos?

as title.

why do web designers hate us so much?

we explain that we are trying to help the client, but still, they get on their high horse and blame us for everything including the kitchen sink!

anyone had any bad experiences? im finding that a lot of designers feel that they can criticise anything that we do - as good and as efficient as we do it.

i used to be a designer, and stopped soley to concentrate on seo some years ago, so i can understand them to a point, but surely the point is to improve the site for the client?

usual stuff really

designers are reluctant to let you do anything anyway, as you know, but one designer has complained about the editing of the code that belonged to his templates (that he wouldnt release).

ive had the experience that 3rd party web designers dont like clients going to an seo and then for the seo to request or to make changes.

because they usually have a relationship of some sort with the client, they will say anything that they can to discredit the seo.

just wondering if i can use tactics to overcome this.

any ideas?

if the designer your working with is that anal about having things edited and not just worrying if his check clears from that job, he may be working in an office space type environment then. I've never expierenced this working with the people i do, perhaps consider having him evaluated and relieved from duty for not following the guidelines

I like requiem's comment about getting the designer out of the pic... as long as he or she deserves it....

When I build a site SEO planning determins the design.

Those artsy-fartsy bassackwards web designers are the only people who make money from sites that are at #354 in the SERPs for their noncompetetive keywords. Somebody has to be downthere I guess.

The fact that someone from the company is talking with you clearly indicates that they are not happy with the performance of their site. You probably have a good chance to get liberty over the design ..... but... before you piss on the designer... find out if he is the nephew of the company president. ha ha

This is often the case.

hmmmm..... Not every one... a few of us can hold our own against all but the very best SEOs.

Simply put web designers hate seos touching their code and seos hate when web designers touch their code. Some kind of weird "primatical-gorilla-pound-chest-stomp-feet-nice-house-2.5-kids" trait us humans cant seem to outgrow yet. It's all about property and convincing yourself that the other guy will mess it up

I think that sums it up pretty nicelly pk lol. A few times I need to make contact with the webdesign company. I normally soften them up by giving them a little tip for their own website (commonly an SEO "Before" case in a before and after demonstration).
They then respect you much more when they can see what you are saying makes sense and are alot more likely not to get their nickers in a twist.
