I agree with chatmaster because while zoolander knows both web design and SEO alot of web designers dont. I have tackled issues with web designers and programmers where I would have to defend my position and explain to them why something will work. Until an SEO gets to the point where their initial suggestion proved to be a positive move than you'll always be criticised for what you know and what you believe will happen with the changes you request to a website. Eventurally a webdesiner/programmer will adapt and trust your better judgement the same way you adapt and trust theirs. Sometimes SEO has to go out the window when userability is an issue and a programmer is alot better in that field than an SEO would be. So you learnt o trust each other eventually.

And I say "Let this thread be born and grow....................just to piss off Zoolander"

Word to your momma.

My condolences to you SEO_AM! I see you are of Zoolander's list.

PK I think it goes back to what Webby said about softening the blow. In general my problem sticks with those web designers that are still ignorant towards SEO. I cannot see how any website can be designed without SEO in mind. If you take the amount of domain names registered daily and the amount of new websites designed daily it is probable a good thing that they are ignorant towards SEO.

Maybe it is just a typo (?). My handle changed. Shortened to SEO_AM, but compared to most on this board I am still just SEO_Amateur. I only do my site. It must be highly challenging to be running SEO for multiple customers.

Trust me from the posts I saw from you, you are no more an amateur at SEO. Yje fact is that these days SEO for different market sectors are different as well. No same rules apply for any website, allthough the basics stays the same. Google really has a good algo this time that will keep us from cracking it for a long time.

The biggest problem facing web designers today - and it totally relates to SEO - is the use of web standards. So many "web designers" are just people who slice up an image in ImageReady; a lot of times, even the text is a graphic.

I'm not gonna preach about the values of CSS in this post (i think i did on like the first page of this thread), but ImageReady and Frontpage are the biggest obsticals keeping "designers" from doing SEO.

Real web designers understand SEO, even if they don't activly engage in it. Real web designers can adapt an SEO's suggestions to their design. Real web designers don't have designs that are too fragile for modification.

Granted my experience with SEO-only firms, is limited to the one SEO firm I worked at, but he didn't know jack about design, and could mess up even the sturdiest page in one edit in Frontpage. So if that's any indication of SEO-only professionals, I can understand why any designer who is limited would be fearful of an SEO touching their page.
