It would be pretty silly to promise the client anything, since you can't control the actions of your competitors and the search engine staff. Just say something like: "We can offer no guaranties, but we will do our very best to bring you as much quality traffic as possible."
It works for me.

common questions asked by clients

Thanx for the reply,

Here are the common questions asked by clients,

1. When exactly will the site get listed on top position?
2. How long it will remain on top position?
3. When my site will get crawld?
4. When can I see a good green bar (pagerank)?
5. Give me the guarantee to put all my keyword on top position?

As I have read a lot and have gone through many details about search engines, it always comes to an end that "I cant Guarantee on any thing". You see this is the main problem, the clients want some kind of magicwand. If you say them that "we can do it", then will search for that guy who says that "we will do it" and that work will never complete.

Reply any thing that comes to your mind.

Explain to the client why you can't answer these questions.
Tell your client to fucus on what they do, selling widgets or whatever and let you worry about their website and webtraffic.

SEO is not magic. SEO is hard analytical work. The clients should remeber that we do not only try to bring them more traffic we are making their websites better by cleaning up the mess after the so called "web designers",

You could always try to sothe the client with pretty much absurd statements like:
"We have a high probability for hanging on to the to position the next 6 weeks." "We guarantee that you will have atleast 50 top 10 positions in three months". But than again serve bull**** to your client, be frank.

Tell them that PPC will give them a guaranteed top posting within ten seconds of uploading an Adword. Of course, a higher bidder using an automated bidding tool could pass you in a few minutes/hours. For a free search, I would say three months at least, assuming it is not a competitive niche where a hundred companies and their gun SEOs are competing.

It will remain on top until the algo changes or a competitor with a smarter SEO knocks you down.

Your site will get crawled within a day if it is linked from a PR5 or higher page. PFI also helps.

More than 3 months - depends on the quality of backlinks.

Sure, using PPC and $100 per click.

Try to avoid such customers. There is more money to be made in managing their PPC campaigns. Train the customers to think in terms of increased visitors, more conversions etc, not the position on the page.
