At my office, I am the boss. The website succeeds or fails based upon my decisions. Employees can provide ideas and give input or feedback (valuable employees do that)... but I make the final call.
Employees get paid by the hour - guaranteed. I get paid by the performance - not guaranteed - which is one of the risks of being the boss. So, you are getting paid guaranteed money to do what you are told to do. You can offer your suggestions and give your opinion about one or two times. After you have given your opinion it is time to go back to doing what the boss says - because that is what your job is and what you are getting paid guaranteed money to do. If you don't like the deal it is time to get another job... because if this website does not perform it is my ***, not yours. I honestly think that you are a pretty smart person and might be suited to run your own sites. Think about starting your own sites. Then you can do everything as you please and make the big money that you think your ideas merit. The bottom line... when an employee thinks that he knows more than his boss he should either get another job if he wants guaranteed money or he should start his own business and show everyone how to do things property.

In the 5 years I've known you... that is the BEST POST you ever wrote. A similar story: A while back I fired a partner [asked & received the resignation from a registered officer of the company] He loved the guaranteed salary and shared equity in the company was a great bonus but at the end of the day the man owned the risk of being wrong and lost everything.

That says it all! Having read that, I am thinking whether I should get a new job or start my own sites? ...maybe a new job site??

What about a shared project? I've got one that's knocks out 100K longtail visitors a month [which is perfect for ad space] and everyone dying for it as well! |

I am fascinated by some of the things in this thread, good and bad.
The way I see it, Egol makes so much sense (as usual.) Your Boss is your Boss for a reason. If they have enough success to be profitable, then he must understand his business and his customers. This being said, you may want to open your mind and learn something from him. True, he may be wrong about some SEO things, but SEO doesn't guarantee conversions. SEO is what helps get your customer to your site from a search engine, not necessarily to a sale. You may want to approach your boss from a different angle. Your boss seems to be more concerned about Conversions than about Rankings (as he should be!) Start thinking more about how you can help him convert the customers he has, and less about how many other people out there are also having trouble bending their boss' will.
