I think the real problem with this contest, though, is the very short time to the endpoints (1 and 2 months). True white-hat SEO just takes longer than that. Now, if they had a prize at 6 months, that would really be a great test (OK, maybe not "great" but certainly better).

I think the problem really is that who cares (as far as the contest rules go) who is on top now. The contest is decided on two days (June 7 and July 7). If I were really selling "nigritude ultramarine" I'd value the SEO who could get me to the top position for the most days, and in fact who got me in the top 5 or so for the most days. This contest is usefull if for one day I need to auction Google IPO stock and I want to be top for that day but otherwise being number one for two days out of two months is not what I'd pay my SEO for. The real winner will be the SEO who maintains the top 5 ranking consistantly regardless of how much the rest of the top 5 or 10 or whatever move in and out.

There may also be some merit to being able to get four of the top ten positions, even if you have to use multiple sites for it to count. My SEO would get more money from me if they got me four of the top five I think, at least for some industries. I'm sure there are lots of little things a purveyor of nigritude ultramarine might value in terms of SEO performance. Like being first out of the gate. When people start looking for places to buy nigritude ultramarine (ns) if I'm the only one for the first two days, that has to be worth something, doesn't it?

Somebody ought to (if someone isn't already) keep track of each day's rankings and assign some point value to the top positions so we could see who you'd really want SEO'ing your site, if selling nigritude ultramarine were the primary objective. I'm tempted to do it so I know who to hire the next time I notice some fad coming that needs quick action and consistant performance for the one or two months to follow.

Not only that, but now that I think of it there ought to be some sort of booby prize for the SEO who can get the highest ranked Flash site (file) for negritude ultramarine (one can't afford to overlook misspellings).

Our competitor at sim64.co.uk is using mangeur de cigogne is his quest to fame and fortune. They, the enemy, may have attacked our flanks. I cannot read French. Am I right?

Click on any of the links in the post. They are in French. Our competitior's site states "Mangeur de cigogne competition is a French version of the Serps competition." All of the links are connected to "mangeur de cigogne."

No problem with these pages... they are just idiotic blabbing about stork eater (mangeur de cigogne) an other contest.
I looked at about 12-15 of the links of the post and got tired of reading crap on stork cooking, stork a l'orange, stork a la mousse, sugar stork, stork this, stork that...

was put online last night. It has only one incoming link from PR7 page. From experience It will be crawled today and indexed on 12th. I'm more than keen to see how much power my small site has for something totally not related and how it will compete... I will slowly add links to that page in order to test how far ONLY internal backlinks can go. If my assumption is correct, they are enough to put me in top10.

The other test is about theming. There are lot's of nigritude talk and signatures on this board, so basicly there should be a connection between seo and nigritude. If my hunch is correct then my signature link should pass some nigritude value to my page. Possibly I will rank highly on ultramarine seo ;)

Hopefully I will find enough time to run some more tests during the competition and write about the results here. I believe there could be some gems lurking.

I wish no one will add links to my competition page as this is an experiment for internal backlinks and one site's authority.
