SEO/SEM positions

Hi
Iam quite new to this SEO.
I just want to know the hierarchy in this field (like team member, team leader, ... in S/W development) and where exacly this SEO/SEM falls under (like S/W development falls under IT and merketing falls under Sales etc).
Can anyone help me in this.
Thanks

SEO/SEM falls under the marketing department for most companies, some cross between the marketing department and the sales department when staff is short.

As for team leader/team member, most people work either alone or within a team, then thier are people like us who offer one more level as we hire out lots of the seo work that our clients order so we then become the team leader and the people under us the team members.

Hope this answered your questions.
