Red face SEO research

Hi, I’m researching for our new SEO business. We want to serve our clients the best way we can, this is why we want to focus on a niche of people who need SEO services the most. (And have the money to pay for them).

Would really appreciate any answers;

Is there an industry type that needs SEO the most?

Thanks, Andy.

Lots of people need SEO services - but I don't think that it is as easy as going after a broad category of clients. If there was an easy-pickings business sector out there, somebody from this forum would be out there making money - either as an affiliate seller or contacting the big players and earning them handsome positions in the market. There are some pretty generous people here but I don't think very many of them will post a map to the gold mine.

Also, some SERPs might "look" easy but if you try to take them over the existing people will pull out some pretty big guns when their wallet is threatened.

Bottom line on this for you... IMO... is to assess what your own personal experiences and accomplishments have been... and that will determine the kind of fights that you want to be picking and which ones you better steer clear of.

If you want to target one specific profession, I'm sure there are plenty of dentists and doctors who need, not only web sites, but also SEO services.

Smile Just my thoughts

if you are new you might want to stop focusing on making the big bucks and work on establishing a reputation. I don't know why you would want to limit yourself to one market. First of all, I think you would be limiting your potential but secondly I think if you have a ton of clients with the same key words, industry, etc its going to be hard to get them all in the top spots.

I agree entirely with this advice.

It is right on the mark.

If a person's only goal in any business is "making the big bucks", the financial results usually tend to be rather disappointing.

If, however, the focus is on client customer and service and satisfaction, and on developing a solid reputation within the industry for great service and results, your business will certainly grow.

If potential clients and customers request references, your past and present clients can provide good solid ones.

Your best sales staff are often your happy and satisfied clients and customers.

focusing on one industry, can be helpful though. Many times you can leverage work you have done for one client to help with another. If they are all in the same field (or most of them) it will probably increase the amount of success you have.

I would really recommend sitting down and planning out, at least in broad terms, what exactly your business will do. Then create some sort of plan (does not have to be a full blown business plan, but it wouldn't hurt either) that you can follow and reference over the next few months. Then at some point (maybe 6 months from now) revisit it and see if it needs to be adjusted based on your experiences over the previous six months. Most people never write one thing down (including myself), but trust me, this will help to keep you and your business on track.

Now...what am I supposed to be doing?

Very valid points by all! I have done SEO for over 300 real estate websites until December, it went crazy the top 20 - 30 positions was only my sites! It started another problem as #30 wanted to know why they are not ranking #1 but X is. My advice? Go to a market that has high conversion rates and does make allot of $ of the web. But do not specialize too much! Although to specialize is not a bad idea as it seems like G has different algo's for different kw's. You will probable target e-commerce sites, online casinos etc. You can also target country specific websites. I would have been extremely happy if someone had the time and the knowledge to help me get my UK sites rank well in the UK's local SE's or maybe the European SE's. I can't even get them listed in some of those directories!

At the end of the day the most important part for you to focus on is to become a respected SEO! The SEO market is growing at an incredible pace and the actual key to success is to become associated with SEO. When someone mention your name people know who you are. Most of my business comes from referrals. With the amount of wannab's growing as well it reputation will becoming more and more important.

I started an SEO company a while ago with a partner that I thought knew SEO. He was responsible for providing content for our website and he did. It was impressive! That was until I did a search for duplicate info! It was copied from some very respected SEO's. I ended up letting the domain expire and kicked him out as that is the last thing you should do. SEO is all about reputation and even the smallest thing can risk it.

SO here is my checklist

1. Ensure you create a good reputation as SEO specialist.
2. Ensure excellent client services and operate in an honest and open manner.
3. SEO is a personal matter and the same SEO handling the client must also be personally involved with negotiations.
4. Target markets with high conversion rates as they will have the $ and give the best references!
5. Never guarantee what you can't give! Prevent disappointment!
