What should be the minimum qualification for a search engine optimizer?

Though question to answer, but any good SEO company/person should be able to show you a wide range of personal sites that they seo'd and own. Don't get fooled into taking "case studies" or "client lists" as credibility as these are almost impossible to judge who did the work, but if the whois has the name of the seo company then you can be rest assured that its a good example of their qualifications.

We would never use a SEO company that didn't show personal results, just think like when you invest your money, would you invest with the stock broker that takes the bus to work or the one that has the BWM parked out front?

100% agreed Stephen, if an SEO can not SEO himself, they are not an SEO.

Seo

If a SEO uses PPC to rank for some of the most popular keywords, such as SEO, search engine optimization, SEO company, SEO services, it should raise a flag. It makes me laugh when I see PPC with titles such as "Never pay for SEO! We will teach you the secrets!". If they hold the secrets, why the PPC? I understand that a new SEO company with experts but a new domain may have to start small before reaching top results for their keywords. What I do not understand is that some companies exclusively use PPC. It is usually a lack of expertise or the site is heavily penalized.
