professional log analysis tools...
Quick question. I'm looking for more advanced web analytics/log analysis software to use for my managed sites. I'm familiar with the industry titans like webtrends, urchin, omniture, etc...
It seems like these software programs require access to a physical server (from what I understand). Like most seo folks, I use a reseller hosting account from one of the millions of hosting companies out there, so I don't have physical access to my server. In other words, I can't install anything on the server. So for now, I'm limited to using Awstats, Webalizer, and Analog because those are the default web analytic tools that are made available by my hosting service. Am I completely wrong about not being able to integrate high end analytic software onto a "virtual" hosting account? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Hugo

Can you download your log files? If so, you can get a log analyzer that you install on your home computer (like the one from sawmill.net for example). Then you download your log files every day (or every week, or whatever), and have the log analyzer crunch through the log files and spit out a report.

That sounds great!
By the way, my forum should be back up in a few days. Our hosting provider suffered a massive failure, so we have not did not have access to our site for 4 days! (a complete and utter nightmare). ugh..... |

I'm making a log analyser software for downloaded logs. So far I'm working on the linux box logs. You can see a sample (not up to date) of the reports it makes here : www.bothunter.com/entry.txt

I will second Donna's suggestion as I have been using Sawmill for several years and I have always been very happy with them. Great analysis and one of the most accurate.

I'm also looking for a a log analyzer. I feel that page tagging instead of log analyzing is a more robust approach.. anybody have any advice on what log analyzer to use? is there a popular one?

or rather.... what's the most used log analyzer with page tagging? doesn't need to be free... $ isn't a huge issue.
