Need SEO consultation for my website *Professionals only*
Hello,
I am looking for someone to review my website and give me some ideas on how to improve the spiderability (word?) of my site since Google appears to not be advancing past the homepage. Also need someone to take a look at my htaccess since I am using RedirectMatch 301. My website is a historical photo gallery niche site. Please contact me. Thanks. |

I can lend you some advice on spiderability, but I have no idea when it comes to htaccess, I usually just google the problem and that works our for me, or have my webhost do it for me.
Post the URL or PM me and I will help you out. No fee |

Alright, I'll just post it here then since no one has PMed me:
My site is: *I can't post my url..account is limited*, so do a google search for "world war 2 pictures" and we're #2 (word "color" in domain name). Gets about 3 million pageviews a month, 130,000+ uniques. My keywords such as ww2 pictures and world war 2 pictures are in the top ten. Question is, why is Google not spidering any of the internal pages? The pagerank toolbar is also greyed out for those pages. I do have redirectmatch 301 going on in my htaccess to send traffic from my old site to the new one. Last edited by skunker : April 22nd, 2008 at 08:48 AM. |

Judging by a site: search on your domain (www.ww2incolor.com?) you've got 19,700 pages indexed, so I'd say that Google is spidering your inner pages just fine.

Jagnet, thanks for your comment,
The majority appear to be forum pages, I think. If you do a -/forum in the search box, you'll get those removed. |

Indeed, which leaves us with ~400 pages, and a large number of those repeat the same error: "Error: Your userfile is not writeable.". Clicking on one we then get an fopen() error.
Fix these errors asap and you should rapidly see improvements. |

Without seeing the source code for your site I can't really give any suggestions on how to fix it. Seems related to photos.dat.lock which I guess is some kind of stats store for the images? If it's not important just get rid of it, or at least stop the server posting error messages until you resolve it (a php ini setting - see uk2.php.net/error_reporting for more info). |

Jagnet,
Can you tell me how you saw the error codes? What did you search/type to see them? Thanks. |

After doing a site:www.ww2incolor.com -forum search, clicking on any pages that have an error message for the title. Only seems to bring up the fopen() error the first time you visit a page, after that it goes -- so you may need to head to the second page of Google results to see it to avoid pages I've visited.

Thanks for the help. I have my server admin looking at the php errors...he said he can fix them.
Also, I have some other questions, but I'll post them in the appropriate category in this forum. Thanks again. |
