It is one of the most competitive markets there is

the top sites have 500,000 to 1,000,000 backlinks

its the sort of term where spending 5-10 thousand dollars a month on optimization would not be unresaonable

Hello Brendan,

Getting a rankings for the keywords you specified, are anything but easy. These keywords are highly competitive and it will take anywhere from 6 to 9 monts or may be more to rank for these keywords.

To put it into perspective, let us consider one of your keyword 'web hosting'. A search for this keyword in Google, throws up 19,200,000 pages. Upon further analysis, we can find that, the websites in the top 10 are big time players with thousands of backlinks to them. To rank a site in the top 10 for these keyword you will require 25,000 to 30,000 backlinks pointing to your website with the keyword 'web hosting'. The number of links needed to achieve this may be a bit less or more but, we can take the number as a ball park figure.

Now, optimization of this magnitude is labour intensive, time intensive, needs very carefull co-ordination of efforts and above all lots of money. The SEO campaign must be also supplemented by an online PR campaign to spread the brand awareness about your website, preferably a PPC campaign till the site doesn't rank, this will ensure a steady flow of customers. It will be wise and prudent to take one keyword at a time that has highest search ratio, in this case, 'web hosting' and go for it first. Also to make the task a little bit easier, you can ask your existing and new customers to include a link to your website, in return you may offer them a small discount.

By the way, i have sent you a PM, about it.

For many companies achieving high rankings for these terms is just out of the question.

The thing to do is keyword research to identify some niche terms that are more specific to your exact services.
For example "linux small business hosting" "media streaming web hosting" etc etc. Keyword research is the most important thing in my book as it
is what you base your whole SEO campaign on!

You could achieve high rankings for several more specific terms with relative ease and substantialy less cost. If you do this for enough niche terms then
you will have enough traffic to bring in customers. Don't forget as well that making sure your sales copy is good and your site converts will and is usable is another large factor in getting business from search engines.

Seoking... that sounds like one of those companies on the Simpsons cartoon...

Did a quick check on the attorney site... nice... placing hidden links on the bottom-left part of the page that lead to all kind of spammy-doorway pages... is that how you "optimize"???

Hope your client is still happy when he gets banned or penalized...

If you just care about one word, that's a separate thing, but if you look at SEO as something that can increase your keyword base and increase your traffic 2fold or 3 fold, then you may feel like considering us.

I think fryman meant "hidden links"... and I can see bunch of them, down on the left, which does not look like so professional.
