Large CMS site - Company looking to hire an SEO

I don't particularly want to start another what to look for in a good SEO company or consultant but... I will with a more specific twist.

What should a large company with a CMS based web site look for in an SEO consultant?

The site uses TYPO3 (french I think) CMS system.
It has a flash splash page and uses dynamic URLs such as index.php?id=12

The site covers a group of companies all operating in the same industry and will cover a number of specific keywords.

What, in your professional opinions, should this company look out for.

Mod rewrite/.htacces would help. Probably some PHP experience to customize the CMS to be more SE-friendly. Otherwise it's all about promotion, link collecting, etc.

look for the one that tells you to dump the flash splash page and see post above me. Questions you can't quantify range from asking you about your target markets, what your goals are, how you plan to achieve them once the visitors reach the site, sample literature etc etc etc. All in the details.

Not knowing the site, if it's "Ugly", remember, you are paying this professional to drive traffic to your site. You want that traffic to convert. If you don't trust the SEO firm telling you to consider a redesign Get 15 or 20 people together for a "Browsing Party" and get feedback on appearance, usability, professionalism, etc etc etc. Probably find those at the next chamber meeting
