I'd like to hire a seo expert dunno where to turn

I was thinking about hiring a seo genius on elance and guru but started thinking about it and came to the conclusion that they likely knew less than i did. I really need to hire someone up and current on seo as i know it changes dramatically almost monthly... and honestly i've lost touch with current seo events over the past year. Some of my past actions caused my sites to be banned from yahoo and google and i want to do whatever it takes to get them both reincluded in both indexes and hire someone who knows how to do this. Can you guys please give me any advice on who to turn to for this kind of help? Please i was incredibly good at this (seo) in the past .... too good honestly... and i got pinched for it. Now i'm looking to mend my ways and to do it the tried and true way..and with a dash of patience, but i need someone who has experience doing this to other banned sites. please please give me any advice

Unfortunately, I would believe you are what is called a nightmare client... I've had many of these is the past that think they can get a little bit of help, score some knowledge and tips and then make unilateral decisions to replace the consultant's decisions... in short - you're dangerous to yourself and the consultant.

The only way I would suggest a move forward strategy is moving your domains to a server under my control and keep you out of FTP access - remove all temptation for you to try you hand at someone elses job again.

the good news is all i know is seo , and not a lick of html or programming. I have been unfortunatly very hands off my sites for the past 6 months since my partner (the programmer) left. I handled all marketing, seo affairs, and graphical content, and he handled the nuts and bolts of it (programming the seo specifically yet dynamically the way i requested). No worries anymore, i openly and honestly bow my head and admit utter defeat now... and I really don't have the programming talent behind me to recover my own site...and i'm in a really horrible situation as we used to maintain an extremely profitable ISP website. It would be bragging but we really dominated the scene for a couple years with hundreds of mostly relevant keyword dominating the #1 position. We even came up in the results number one when competing for our competitors names. Since my business partner left i basically quit researching , reading, and practicing SEO...got depressed and left the scene for half a year...sat by helplessly watching as the sites all got banned. Right now i could use the advice of someone like you Fathom. Tell me more about your servers and moving things over... i think that would be the only way to pop back in in my opinion..honestly i think i know where your going with that. And i have no intention to step on the feet of anyone hired to dig me out of the hole i made for myself!

To anyone looking to hire a SEO from this forum. AVOID people with almost no posts, red warnings, negative rep, etc The are heaps of 'conman' that trawl this board looking for guliable people to take their money from them...

yeah i already picked that up. I've been lucking throughout the Seochat forums for some time in the past and recently. I can tell someone who knows their stuff in comparison to someone who is newbie wanting to make a buck. The professional actually wont even want the work, the newbie will BEG for it. Heck if i wouldnt own 50% of someone elses revenue i wouldnt have wanted to waste my time either (in the past)... We did about $20,000 a month in profit in the past when we had a visible presence in Yahoo/Google, now doing about 1/2 of that thanks to a dominant position in MSN and practically no traffic from Yahoo/Google. These are not new sites or ...new ideas..or potential money making sites... they are all very old and proven and had extremely impressive PR and countless strong backlinks (still do)... Problem now is i have all this real potential and i'm too stupid to know how to get myself back in the index to go for round 2...alittle more milder and patience this time however. Thank you Fathom and others for your advice, really!

He means fathom just about the best there is at playing the game of SEO. Even if he gets 50% of your cake its more likely to be 50% of a wedding cake than 50% of your current cup cake lol.. (analogy of course). Visio is just poinitng out fathom does not do SEO for people any more so the fact that he has even offered you an 'opening negotiating position' that is more than I have ever seen him offer someone before.

Therefore I think Visio is suggesting the 50% that you would get with fathom on board is likley to be multiple times the 100% you get without him.

You wont find better on this board (as good maybee but i bet they will be at least as expensive). Also it means if he doesnt perform he doesnt make any money either.

If you do not at least enter into some discussion with him I think you are missing a great opportunity.

i would think he would want to take a peak at what i am currently doing before making that offer. He might adjust his percentages down (or up.. ) based on the domains and web presence. I have been reading this thread and I am surprised i was taken seriously as I understand he no longer takes on these types of jobs. Somewhat excited honestly.


Maybe PM me and I'll send the urls immediately and you can provide some feedback as to some of my claims here. (they are currently dead now in the major 2 engines and have been for some time)

Then you are really a good SEO, good SEOs always know how to earn money without offering SEO services for others

Now why would i want to do that. Sollict on forums where you have established some credntials not this one. memebrs will always warn people to avoid those that just 'pop' in and claim to be seo experts and try to pick up clients. Agreed everyon needs to start somewhere BUT do not start the way you are trying to. My warning to others stand..

Which begs that question "why are you not at DP and SitePoint soliciting clients - where you have tender"?
