Do my SEO company know what they are doing?

Hello,

I need a bit of help to discover whether an SEO company I hired actually know what they are talking about.

They are optimising an ecommerce site with many different product categories.

For example, theres categories for "nintendo wii accessories" and "xbox 360 accessories".

Now the site ranks highly for these terms and the correct category page come high up in the SERPs.

However the SEO company are optimising the homepage for "nintendo wii accessories" and "xbox 360 accessories". I pointed out that this might dilute the ranking of the category pages but they said it wont, it will just strengthen it and they use this strategy all the time to great effect.

What I need to know is whether this is true? Or are do they not know what they are talking about?

Unless its a specific strategy for conversion that you requested this doesn't sound like they are doing the right thing to me.

The terms you mention are quite competetive.

A rule of thumb is target one keyword or phrase per page.

Tell themt o optimise the specific pages or get rid.

Thanks, very disappointing as I've already paid them 500$ now they want the next 500$ installment!

They claim steadfastly that its a really great tactic!

They are still saying that they know what they are doing...

If anyone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it, are they talking rubbish?

Just ask them to give you 10,000 of those websites and keywords so you can check their story. Should be easy for them to give you the evidence... check out a few at random by ringing the website owner... and then judge for yourself...

LOL Waste your time with us cause we are obviously not busy enough taking care of your site so we build links to other sites instead is a much better approach.

When you walk away... you leave the links - they don't go with you... AND they conveniently contact a competitor to get money from them instead of you.

The rankings you currently have are obviously no thanks to this seo company for their self-proclaimed brilliance in optimizing a worthless home page... Fruition it is? I would call it fruity...

The whole email is a bunch of bull... "We have hundreds of thousands of top 5 rankings on Google for a reason" - is that right? 100s of thousands of rankings yet they still have time to solicit new clients... something they claim to frown on. What hypocrites... the company is a great success, they have managed to convince you and probably hundreds of others that they are seo and have succeeded in taking your money...

I can claim to have hundreds of thousands of rankings but the fact is what rankings? Are they competitive or are they long-tail or even worse baloney phrases that nobody even searches, or perhaps they are voodoo rankings which are not really there...

Ps. Tip: when searching for your next company, ignore all Fruit-loops who tell you they can seo your site by optimizing your pages... only a fool would claim that because there is no way in the world to rank for any key-phrase of worth by optimizing alone... only fruit-loop companies make claims like that. Also I would recommend getting a second opinion before hiring an seo as well.
