Randfish, I think that you will get a better paycheck and more attentive students if you offer a short course for business folks. This would be a two day event done immediately before or after one of the major search engine meetings. Maybe if you contact one of the event orgainizers they can bundle your course with their show... they get an added feature and you get their powerful marketing. You will need to nail down a conference room with internet access and each studnet is expected to provide a laptop and network cable.

As far as I can see this guy needs some competition. Cory Rudl is not an expert IMO. Nor should be confused with an SEO expert. His site was penalized so long in Google for bad technique he had to change websites. I am sure Randfish could do a better job.

Just wondering but why do you want to teach SEO?
Do you enjoy teaching? do you want to add training to resume? or do you just to make some bucks? If you just want to make some bucks why don't you just optimize some affiliate sites? People who can't do ... teach, You have the skills to be making tons of money, why waste your time teaching some retards anything? |

ferret-
Actually, I think I want to teach for some selfish reasons, and some un-selfish ones. First off, I want there to be a community of well-educated Internet Marketing professionals here in Seattle and elsewhere. Our industry does not have a great reputation and I'd like to help fix that. Second, I think that by teaching, I can learn an amazing amount about SEO that I may think I know, but don't. A thousand questions will be asked of me and I won't always have the answer - so I think I can hone my own skills too. As far as 'retards' - I hope not. I assume that anyone who would sign up and pay the UW to take a course like this would have some real interest in the class, and at least a basic understanding of how valuable this knowledge is. Besides all that, I owe it to the SEO community to share my knowledge. After all, when I started lurking here a year ago, I didn't know anything about SEO either! |

Nice idea Rand.. but first you have to market your product that is SEO in such a way that people gets tempted to come there and learn. I dont think that people have any idea about SEO (UNI STUDENTS), or if they will be having that will be much lesser. So first create a curosity in students to come and join the course. I dont think so that SEO is a tempting word, making Internet earn or something like that that will make person to see what SEO is all about...
then hit the nail... although 16 hours is not at all enough taking into consideration that most of the students will be LAY MAN in SEO & some might even wont have any idea about the HTML... in 16 hours only overview can be given not a detail sessions.. these are my 2 cents.

I don't mean to seem blunt or whatever, you might be the teaching type
my girlfriend loves it, I personally would rather dig ditches then teach I have no patience, and find most normal people ... well I would rather create affilate sites, and then spend all day fishing and come home to see how much more money is in my bank I think if tried it you would too, except maybe instead fishing you would just do whatever you like to do |

I think folks may be confused by who exactly I'm teaching. The experimental college at UW is open to anyone, and typically graduates and business people take courses like 'intro to web design' there. It's very different from a college in that there is no applying to get in, anyone can take classes, and the school generally offers courses that appeal to the community (business, arts, etc.).

Out of curiousity, part of what college degree would this subject be taught? Part of a Business/Marketing degree? |

I think you would do excellent aswell....
I'd say go for it.... SEO is an important part of marketing and I believe that classes will start forming soon... It's inevitable... When you have thousands of students learning about marketng and they have no clue about internet marketing, they are all in for a rude awakening.... This must be tought, but it's so new - and it changes so fast.... But it must be addressed....

It's actually through the UW's experimental college, so it wouldn't be part of a degree program. Thanks for all the encouragement gang.
