Been there..

we had a short term client (don't ask) that is in the 3rd party mortgage business up here in the Toronto area, and the keywords they wanted targeted were most likely in the same general area as your own (mortgage broker, cheap mortgage rates etc. etc.)

we fought - and I do mean fought - just to get any kind of serps for same on google and msn. we did do okay for the client on sympatico, alta vista and our local se here .... but the costs and estimates of further costs to try to 'climb' the google/msn ranks was simply too much for this small company...so they passed.

guess what I'm saying is, that area, the mortgage one is a pretty fierce arena....tho your own mileage may vary....

;-(

I have had great success in several financial fields by specializing the search term, particularly with a geographic modifyer. I was a hopeless failure for "life insurance", for example, but "san diego life insurance" made me some money. Naturally, there is less traffic / keyword, but I found that it is slightly more qualified traffic, and of course potentially a lot more keywords.

After experimenting a lot (a looot) I found a system that works very well for me in regards to these "lead" type sites - state specific domain-name (like insuranceratesohio.com) and state/city specific subpages.

It is an administrative pain in the ***, not to mention the enjoyable weekends spent updating 50 sites, but you are competing for terms that are approachable.

Good luck,

David

Yes...I concur euroJungle...

in fact we too have had much more success when "localizing" kewords...especially of course for much less competitive ones....

that said, it will still I think be costly to try to jump high in the g serps....

:-)

Yup, and time consuming. I guess that is why lowermybills.com pays $35 for each filled out form!

Vaddy... you appear to be an affiliate of other companies that actually offer such financial services.

You will need deep pockets for this - and likely not worth your investment.

I will further add - a budget of no less than $36K is the bear minimum... and SEOs referencing something less - don't understand the undertaking and cannot likely achieve success for you.

Food for thought.

I think and recommend that you should start looking at other highly targetted related keywords as well which might be easier to attain (not easy), and get more rankings and traffic. Works in quite a lot of cases.
