Lightbulb Can Email marketing campaigns have a better CTR?

May be this can be an interesting lesson for all Email marketers…

We must have experienced receiving spam mails all around the globe to our Inboxes. Some arrive at the midnight and rest at different times of the day/week…
Usually we delete them without reading but some catch our eyes, therefore, we afford to accept the pain in reading them. May be the subject line was catchy or may be it arrived at such a time when we had nothing better to read at.

My question is:
Can we derive a trend when people mostly read those mails than simply deleting them?

Let me illustrate further…
Situation #1
I had received an unsolicited mail at 2:00am on Monday while sleeping. I open my Inbox on a busy Monday morning and found 100s of them. I have no time to even bother whether or not they meant my business. So, I choose to ‘select all and delete’. CTR=0.

Situation #2
I received the same unsolicited mail at 2:00pm on Friday while counting the nanoseconds left to join a weekend party. Chances are more that I will likely read it out of relaxation. CTR=+ve.

If we share our experience, we may form the trend line and pattern of email readerships.

It may please be noted that I do not intend to encourage the spammers to spam more, but to create a case study which I promise to repost it here.

Your sincere feedback will be most appreciated.

Unless I signed up for the email list it goes by by with a warning not to send anymore. I hate 'email marketing'. The only good kind is when the users signup SPECIFICLEY FOR YOUR LIST. When it is a bought list or harvested emails it angers me.

BTW I don't see how this fits into the SEO pros does it? Most of us seo don't use email marketing or am I the only one who doesn't? And again I am referring to the spam type not the okay mailing list type.

Well when they go to my seo blog, read it, love it and click the SUBSCRIBE button. I sign them up. When they want out I unsubscribe them. That is the good kind I am referring too. The bad would be buying subscribers or otherwise shadily gathering email addresses whether from user signups who did not request it or other methods.

Email lists are a VERY good source to get referrals, conversions, etc. HOWEVER, that email source MUST be targetted. It's the same as mailing lists except in this case your conversion rate is probably smaller since it's a different medium. But targetted emails, particularly those that are derived from your own lists (i.e. forum sign ups, newsletter sign ups) are excellent methods of driving more traffic and having returnees.

Sending unsolicted emails is risky. i posted earlier how a complaint lead to my site being taken down for a week. I was only sending out information about some link bait i had created to manually picked sites that i thort the info was relevant to.

I know have registed a different domain name (same name just .cn rather than .hk) and send my reqests using this. this domain hosted in different country.

As for email campaigns i donot think i have ever said yes to an unsolicted email offer tha was not specifically targeted at me ie link exchange request.

The ones that 'trick' me at looking at them ie 'urgent message from your brother' in title box just get opened and deleated.

I donot care about the spam personally just cannot see how anyone makes any money from it.

i must get at least 20 emails a day offering to deposit millios of $$$ in my bank account from african prince etc. I fail to see how these dudes can make any money. Is anyone out there that gulable and even if they had your bank account number that doesnt allow them to get your cash.

So to original poster. Even if you can work out a trend i'd bet it wont translate into diddly squat $$$$.

If you have a product worth selling my advice is to put your effort into a more effective marketing campaign.

BUT if anyone in this forum has made significant $$$ from email camapigns I would be intersted to hear
