$295 DMOZ submission service.

http://www.searchmarketingsales.com/DMOZ_submission_services.html

Is this in the same realm as charging for search engine submissions?

Just interested in what everyone has to say.

Wow... I bet they earn their money. Every person who visits here and posts.... "Wah! I can't get into DMOZ!"..... or "Those Rats at DMOZ"... is probably bugging them. They probably have a recording on their phone that says... Read our guidelines, we don't submit sites with... yada, yada, yada,

So, they are providing a service to an unhappy camper audience and many of them can not read instructions.

There is nothing wrong with what they doing. They just submitting for a fee and giving a money back guarantee if not listed in 21 days. They are selective whch sites they suggest.

They specifically state that they are not editors.

Personally, I think anyone is stoooopid to pay, when you can simply do it yourself for nothing ... heck, send me $50 and I will submit it for you.

Having said that, I was an editor and the submissions that jumped out at me and got my attention were the ones with a perfectly guideline compliant description and title ... so maybe they get their claimed success rate that way.

europa agrees: I was thinking...I should add that to my portfolio of services too for half the price! LOL!

Primary quote from their site: "Guaranteed DMOZ Listing In 21 Days". They claim a money back guarantee with a success rate of over 85%.

For me... I have a knowledge of DMOZ and what they expect or want. To pay someone else $295 for what it would take me 5-10 minutes to do... What is the sense in that?

However, I am sure there will be some willing to pay it on a no-risk basis. Has anyone here tried their service and received a refund? Or, tried their service and was listed within the 21 days?

Not liking to bad mouth a service I know nothing about but they must have some editors/senior editors on site to give that time frame I would think..

ie what happens if you page comes up on day 22... Do you still get your money back. I would guess they having nothing to loose. If they can pull it off they get your money. If they cannot they just give the money back. If they can be successful tens times a week and fail 90 times they still making decent money and possibly telling the truth. Good idea if they have at least a couple of friendly editors..

I dont see any problems with their service, or any service for that matter that does what it says it does.

For me certain aspects of SEO/Web design are easy as pie, however there are plenty of people willing to pay for the service who simply dont want to do it them self. This is what these services are for.

I just red their offer for first time. A lot of strings attached to that refund. Also they can't loose because they keep $95 even if they give refund. Thus if they submit and get you in they get $295 if they submit and fail they get $95.

The fact that they give a screen shot for the $95 dollar service but do not give one for the $295 service suggests something not quite upfront going on here. What is the 'extra' they are charging the $200 for. It must be an inside contact at DMOZ. Otherwise you are just paying an extra $200 for the same service as the $95 service and get the $200 get back if it doesn't work.

DMOZ editors out there you should investigate what is going on here...

I do not really agree with this statement. Ripping people off is still ripping people off... wether they know they have been ripped of or not (not commenting on discussed service here just the concept in general). The knowledge that you have been decieved just makes it worse. People who sell placebo as proper medicine are just snake oil slaesman and deserve to be prosecuted for theft IMO.

europa agrees: You read the fine print. I didn't. If they got all of their money back it would be different. Good
detective work.
