I believe if you're a UK based business targeting the UK you would still come under the law no matter where your hosting is

Also wouldn't that be bad for google rankings? having foreign hosting.

Yes, people being creative and making money online is no good apparently, more people need to be on benefits or working dead end mind numbing jobs.

Yeah this law sounds like a massive pain in the butt I hope the Aus Gov never brings in it along with the USA.

Look at how a government website has handled the new cookie law

All they have done is put "cookie" at the top with a link to their private policy..

Sorry Gaz I missed your post.

What are these morons trying to do? Crush the internet?

One thing we can do is mass non-compliance.

What I've read is at the moment unless someone specifically complains that they haven't been asked about cookies they aren't going to be coming after anybody.

Most Uk government sites I've looked at just have "cookies" somewhere on the page that leads to terms and conditions, pointless.

Some don't even have that http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/

That is so typical... Pass a new law. Realize it virtually impossible to do... The simply ignore it rather then get rid of it...

How do these Govt sites comply with the law. Where is the click to agree. I should report them....

That's good then. Quite frustrating though that they just pass these silly laws.

Now all you need to do is go to your competators website and complain that you were not asked to accept their cookies.... Get a few of your mates to complain as well... This law is such a bad law...

I think that is the governments plan, for webmasters to snitch on each other

I can't find the article now, but what they did was contact 50 of the biggest UK sites and tell them they had to have it, obviously if you're one of those 50 sites you aren't going to be happy seeing any of your competitors not have it so you are going to snitch on them, then I think they're hoping for a daisy chain affect.
