A description describes the site, in the meta tag it's what search engines use for it's description in a directory, it's what they use to describe the site.
virtually the same thing, just a different way to apply it.

As per knowledge there is no difference between "description" v/s "meta description". But there is difference between "META tag" v/s "KEYWORDS". We use meta tags or keywords in the <HEAD> tag of an html content to help search engines find your website. While keywords is what user search in search box(their search query is keywords).

Basically, meta description is a text that pops out in search results under the titles of webpages. It gives a brief description of your site content and making up eye-catching meta descriptions will help you generate

As for meta keywords , Tag is where you list the keywords and keyword phrases that you've targeted for that page. They don't have great SEO value, but quite useful for search engines crawlers.

Why are people going completely off what was asked? Especially when the OP hasn't bothered to return to the thread!?

A simply answer for the question is:
Description: What is shown in your listing on the directory pages.
Meta Description: What is shown in the search engine for your listing.

Thread closed as there is nothing else to say about what was asked.
