Lets assume you are equally good at both professions.

I think a lot of it will have to do with your personality. Software development is a more solitary endeavor, and SEO can require more face time with folks.

I have done both and enjoy both. S

If you would be doing SEO for clients speaking English only, then stick to the programming until you master English.

    • terriwells agrees : Good point.
Frankly, I wonder who Frank is and why he has his own adverb.

To answer your question like an SEO...it depends on what you're optimizing for. ;)

Which are you better at? Which do you enjoy more? What's important to you?

All of these factors, and more, will affect your results in each profession.

And here's another question worth asking: which one would you gladly do even if nobody was paying you to do it?

Both are good, when coming to point of owner SEO is great, because SEO creates one Employee to become a Business man, but Software Engineer i don't think so.

HI, both professions are very good. You can not compare one to another. It depends what is your area of interest. If you are a software programmer and want to switch your area then firstly think why you want to change? Finally go with your interest.

Thank you for your answers. I'm currently doing SEO from a company. I'm in India and getting 5.5K per month. Having a 1 year of experience. I know the salary is pretty bad. I want to earn more in SEO. People say you can get so much in SEO field but I'm not getting that much. What to do?
