    SEO in 2014

For the past couple of years I have asked what people think will be the big story in SEO for the coming year. This is important because we must stay ahead of updates in order to keep our sites at the top.

So: What will be new in SEO for 2014?

My prediction: One of the social media giants will unveil a competent search engine that the media and Google will take notice of.

    Previous predictions here:

    Merry Christmas, Happy New Year!

I think product reviews on product page will play big game for e-commerce sites and Google autocomplete style long tail keywords will be popular for most of us

I too predict the launch of a new search engine, perhaps via a social giant as KernelPanic suggests or even something put together by a small team of disgruntled and fledgling programmers somewhere. Along with it, there will finally be a press-worthy uprising against Google. We know there are anti-Google movements, but nothing they're really batting an eyelash at. I think many will flock to the new search engine and the anti-Google will become more unified. Google won't lose its top spot but hopefully their monopoly on the industry will start to shift.

Google will get too greedy with trying to move more to PPC and lose a large portion of the market share, where as Bing will gain more. Hopefully they'll be real close (but I doubt it) which would make seo that much more important.
I guess that's more hope than a prediction.

The days of "easy" SEO are gone. This will become all the more obvious in 2014 as Google advances her plans towards interactive intelligence driven search as opposed to the simplistic keywords list search of years past. This trend will only worsen as possibly Bing/Yahoo will also move down a path to where keywords and, maybe, backlink importance will become history.

I dont think so SEO is gone. Yes you can say that its completely rejuvenated. It is not just link building, its not consumer management and user SEO. Many seo companies like moz, topserankings.com, woorank etc have changed their way of working and advising company owners to think about users rather SEO.

I agree. There will always be an industry that assists site owners in getting conversions; call it what you may. My point is that SEO as we have known it is becoming an activity that will be highly diminished as the Internet marketing methodology paradigm shifts.

My prediction for Google search rather than search in general is that Google will move closer and closer (with other Search Engines following in their wake) towards an almost 'random' first page of results dominated by enough big brands with multiple pages listed to make the results 'useful' to the searcher (meaning LESS websites/companies actually on 1st page - or even 2nd and 3rd) in turn meaning that more and more companies (including bigger brands with bigger budgets) will need to go PPC, in turn pushing up bid prices.
