A possible fix for the Google 302 temp redirect issue?

I can't say for certain if this is a valid fix, but a friend of mine swears it got rid of the 302 issue with his site in Google. He found out which pages in his site were being targetted, and he did a 301 permanent redirect on them to a new URL.

He thinks this voided the 302 redirect Google was following, as the page no longer existed. It was quite a bit of work, but he said his site has now returned to almost normal levels. I've done this on one page on my site that's been targetted, but haven't seen Googlebot hit it yet.

I don't know if this makes sense, but the 302 taking Page Rank doesn't make sense either. FWIW...I'll update if I see any changes in my page.

    Shame,
Is there anything that can be done regarding this, other than mailing google?

It's possible that this could work. It makes sense in a silly sort of way. The only way you would be able to effectively make this work, without impacting business, is to (temporarily) deliver the 301 to Google only, in other words, cloak.

    Hehe, fight blackhat with blackhat.

It would be cool if there were a standard "dead end" script for that. Maybe even one that could be detected (by Google), but that explained its purpose just by being active. Some sort of "legal" cloaking. ...not that it's illegal mind you - only risky.
