Maybe a shot in the dark but... you're not affiliated with a restaurant, are you?

Either way, welcome to the forum!

Well...I am new too, but as far I know:

SEO is optimization for free.

SEM is optimization with paid ads.

Everytime I see posts from this thread, the mouse begins moving toward the spam button rather quickly. I try my best to stop it, but sometimes it's just too hard.

Maybe I'm being a (not so nice person) here, but I personally don't like this thread. I know it gives those new people who want to post for absolutely no reason other than to say "hey, nice forum," a place to post, but I'd rather not see all that rubbish.

If we're going to have a thread like this, can we have another one just to rant for no particular reason?

Howdy

Just found you guys, looking for forums with fellow SEO friends... Work for an SEO company in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Can't beat the sunshine and beaches.

I live in Fort Lauderdale, generally a happy person, been putzing around on the internet over 16 years, longer if you count the days of the phone modems that you placed the receiver on top of and BASIC/BASICA programming... Guess that makes it about 23 years.

Look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Audrey....we have a number of great women contributors here but we could definitely use some more. Only advice I can give is.......don't be thick skinned and if you stick around a long time, you can learn a lot and give back a lot. Glad to have you on board!

Hi, new here, hoping to learn about SEO

Hi, hope this is in the correct section. I am a wall and floor tiler. Designed my own website 2 months ago using Microsoft Office Small Business free website design tools. Have also used web CEO tools, which I am currently still trying to get my head around, some terms and advice I do not understand.
I have also submitted my site to many search engines.
Question 1 : What are the fundamental differences between Google and Yahoo in the way they index sites ?
Question 2 : Can you point me in the direction of an easy to undestand research for web SEO, that gives advice that is suitable to use within Mircosoft Office Web Tools ?

I have now so far managed to get my site listed on Yahoo, ranked no 2 for search " tiler in Halifax" and number 1 for search "experienced tiler in halifax"
Not much joy with Google or other engines.
Really want to understand and learn. However initially any advice in simple terms please.

Hi Nick,

I moved your post to the right place (you were very close... lol)

The best place to start is the opening post in this thread; there you'll find links to the best seo start-up advice (and some very advanced).

The differences between Google & Yahoo (in seo terms) are - largely - that Yahoo seem to be more interested in "on-site" elements whereas Google pays much more attention to "off-site elements" (backlinks, co-citation etc etc).
Hence it's often easier to rank a new site in Yahoo

That's a very general summary of course. Most SEO folks concentrate their efforts on Google (because it's harder and wayy more popular)!

If you work your way through the links in the opening post of this thread you'll find a huge amount of valuable info' and if you get stuck, be sure to ask.

Welcome to SeoChat
