Angry My hosting company sucks!

I am so sick of them. I just finally wrote them an email trying to find out how to get out of the six month agreement I agreed to. My sister set the account up for me so I don't know exactly what it said. I have had it. My site goes down all the time. They offered me a credit for the month twice which I have yet to see. Waiting to see if I get charged for this month. It is not a cheap hosting company either. I thought if I went with someone that had been around a while and didn't look like a upstart company I would do better. I hate them. I am about to go write a bad review at alexa if I don't get some serious a*kissing! I am so sick of them. They don't answer their phone. You can't ever get a hold of anyone. I think the guy that answers it has caller ID and recognizes my number LOL cause I call so much. I know he recognizes my voice. I don't know if I just have unreasonable expectations but my site does go down several times a month. Sometimes its just five minutes but this morning its been over twenty! I am really nervous about moving my site because I don't know what I am doing but this is just crappy service!

Uggh!

I would say move your site anyway - try to get the money back but don't let that stop you from moving.

I started out on a reseller host - it to was unreliable - too many sites on a poorly managed server - really irritating. I don't trust reseller packages, but it's often difficult to tell between these and real packages. There are just so many hosting sites.

Possibly someone here can recommend a good, reliable host in the US.

I use the largest and possibly most expensive. That is what you usually have to do if you want reliability and service, a la Sony, Mercedes and Toyota. I use Verio. They have been excellent for many years. You can save money elsewhere... but you get what you pay for.

Hosting company

I have been using 1and1.com hosting company and I am pretty much satisfied with their service and reliability. You can try it out at http://www.1and1.com

I'm with 1and1.co.uk who are actually based in Germany. They are pretty reliable but don't tend to let you do anything out of the ordinary (to the extent of no custom 404 error pages for the windows servers).

Getting to the point - the US version of the same company changes $9.99 for exactly the same package that costs £9.99 in the UK. With the exchange rate that's 1.8 times more expensive in the UK!

I think I'll move my sites to the US. Thanks sylvester - I love you. (and welcome to SEO Chat).

might i suggest registering the domain name www.yourhost-sucks.com, send them a nice email letting them know if your issues aren't resolved in a timely manner and you're not released from your contract you will be creating the site and marketing it aggressively in the search engines to let other potential customers know about your negative experiences with their company.

i've used this method several times over the last few years and it's worked like a charm 100% of the time. ;)

FWIW - I have a ValueWeb dedicated machine and a LunarPages shared hosting plan and both have been excellent.

I'm switching hosting for a couple sites, and I think I'm going to http://www.jumpline.com/ A couple big time (in the design world anyway) blogs I frequent use them including designbyfire.com. My current hosting company stopped updating awstats for the month b/c they "were full". hosting companies just suck. sorry to be bitter but...

Smile Thanks

I did call and talk to them. They said I just needed to email support or something when I am ready to switch. The customer service person is usually really nice to me but that doesn't make up for the lousy service. I like the yourhost-sucks idea! LMAO. I am switching my hosting soon. I have someone around that has been helping me out with stuff so hopefully I can get some help moving my site and it won't be too hard.

It's usually a pretty simple transition patty. I've had to move sites many many times due to bad hosting companies. Basically, you sign up with a new hosting company and they tell you what nameservers to use (two IP addresses), and how to ftp your files up to the server. FTP the files up. Then you go to whichever registrar you bought your domain name from, and in your control panel there, you change the nameservers to the new ones (just fill out the form). Then 24-48 hours later (usually 24), your site is serving from the new server. I usually change the index page slightly on the new server, so I can know whether or not I'm looking at the old hosting company or the new one when I go to the site. Then, once it's switched over, give it some time (I usually wait 2 weeks), just for the "to be sure" factor, and then I cancel the old account.

I probably shouldn't have posted this. I was pissed and truthfully still am. I am not with your company just so you know. Similar name. I would never recommend the company I am with. They have a good repuatation from what I can tell and obviously don't care about my business. I did let them know about my unhappiness more than once. Have yet to get much of an apology. When I told them I was planning to switch I did not receive any type of email saying we are sorry you are so unhappy, we care about your business, nothing at all like that. I get the feeling they must just think my business isn't that important or they are tired of me complaining. I have had it. I was feeling a bit of second thoughts like maybe I should give them a second chance but you would think that they would have made an effort to win me back. They don't seem to care. My site was down again twice yesterday. I was afraid to call and complain again as I have called them so many times. I am a nice person and very understanding. I have worked in customer service so I try really hard not to be ugly or nasty to people when I am mad. Things happen sometimes and that I can understand but when your site goes down frequently, I am talking once a week or more sometimes that is just no way to run a business. I think I have gotten better service from a free hosting site. Their customer service rep is very nice. But niceness only goes so far.

I have found a good hosting company I think. He has been extremely helpful to me in the past and is helping me to move my site. Talked me through doing several things over the phone. I am pleased to be with his company. Customer service is very important to me and anyone willing to go that extra step to help me out shows that they care about my busines. I don't forsee having any problems once I make the switch.

I've realised that pissed means angry in America. In the UK it means very drunk, and I took the wrong meaning from your post initially. Just thought I'd clarify for non US-English speakers.

Glad your hosting problem is getting sorted out.
