My 8000th post - Where did all the Trolls go?

Once upon a time, when Forum Posting was still an art and when the skill of Hidden Link Dropping still had its rewards, many fearful creatures used to roam the web. The subspecies had deceptively cute names like Evil Clown, Toxic Granny or Enfant Provocateur. But every time one of them showed up on the Who's Online List, people would either start to tremble - with their neck hairs standing on end - or bring out the popcorn. Oh yes, Trolls ruled.

Nowadays, sightings of these mythical creatures are few and far between. Apart from the odd clueless newbie lashing out after being caught spamming, or maybe a regular losing his patience after Yet Another dozy comment on Keyword Density, there seems to be less emotion and passion in forum posting. I must admit that I too am less trolly in my posts, although on most forums there's a pretty good reason for that.


But where have they gone? Have they snapped out of it, grown old and tired perchance? Have they all taken to blogging? Have emotions been completely replaced with emotiCons now? Are mods so fast and thorough these days that any sign of trolliness is nipped in the bud? Surely not.


There must be a place, somewhere, where Trolls are hanging out together, preparing themselves for a magnificent come-back. A Troll haven if you will. It is green and peaceful, flowery and delicate, perfect for training one's trampling or torching skills. Maybe their return will be marked by a sign of some sort. An omen. Then again: maybe they'll return quietly, sneakily even, and infiltrate as many forums as possible before taking over completely.


We'll see eh............?



In case you were wondering: this really is my 8000th post. And no, the other 6065 were not deleted. They are rusting away quite nicely in the old archives hehe
