Main uses of Excel in SEO companies?

Hi,
I'm finished university and am now in the hunt for work within the internet marketing industry. All the job specs seem to be looking for advanced knowledge of Excel. I was hoping to find out what are the main uses of Excel within internet marketing companies? I take it that there are many, but what would the most important ones be?
Any tips greatly appreciated.

There is not much that you can do in excel that you can't figure out in 10 minutes using the built in help and Google..

I wouldn't worry too much about it, there is nothing that the marketing industry uses Excel for that other industries don't use.

Your best bet if you are still concerned is to buy a book on Excel and read up on it before any interviews so you can "talk the talk" if asked.. i seriously doubt they'd make you do any kind of test on it before offering you a job

Spend an hour creating a graph(without help from the automated tools). Graph out plans, rankings, PR changes, goals etc and you should learn anything you need to know. It isn't hard to learn... but don't buy the new excel(2007) or combine with vista. they don't mix well

Don't be so sure. It may be different for certain positions and companies, but I know of at least one firm that checks knowledge of Excel (and Outlook) by actually having the candidate do things with the program and watching them while they try.

Yeah but again it is very easy to learn... that shouldn't be much of an issue.

I use Excel every day..

* manage thousands of KWs for PPC

* download files from adwords and adsense and evaluate them with excel

* convert Clicktracks log data into excel and merge with adwords data

* edit data feeds using excel and convert to web content database

Being a SEO Executive in an Indian Firm, I uses Excel a lot.
1. Monitoring weekly or monthly rankings in Search Engines
2. Hit Report Analysis with Graph
3. Keyword Analysis
4. Competitors Website Analysis
and many others.

I believe the most essential thing to learn in Excel is various Graphs drawn with the data provided in Excel.
