    Losing link juice via redirect?

Just went to seomoz.org through this forum.

I noticed that they have a 301 redirect from seomoz.org to http moz.com and then another to https moz.com

Am i right in thinking that they're losing link juice twice from the seomoz.org domain?

    Not really.

Diminishing PageRank (link juice) is about the dampening factor of passing only 85% of PageRank from any page to any other page so in theory a 2 hop 301 would pass about 72%... of the previous page's PageRank but 85% of it's own from other paths.

The 301 redirects are an attempt to merges all PageRank from all paths to a different domain to http to https of the same domain so while it might seem like a mathematical loss in fact, it is seomoz.org 72% and moz.com at 85% and https://moz.com at 100%.

Seriously seomoz.org link juice is pretty limiting compared to that of https://moz.com

You have to look at all angles not just a single version.
