Kickass Content, Link Bait & Link Building

I have been voraciously reading the forum and getting a little confused on terminology. Please clarify my understanding.

Kickass content is basically best-of-the-web content, someone else may have the same content topic, but not as good as what you have created.

Link Bait is yours and yours alone. Unless you create affiliates.

Link building is either of the above for the purposes of attracting High PRs such as .gov and .edu.

Also, for kickass content - does best-of-the-web include onpage SEO or just the content itself, as if it had been in print?

    Thanks for the help.

Link building - Anything you do to try to acquire more links for your website.

Kicka$$ content/best-of-the-web content - Whatever you are creating.. i.e. photo, video, article, application, make it better than anyone else on the web, so people will visit your site, talk about your site and link to your site instead of some other site offering similar content.

Link Bait - Any Content that makes people want to link to your site, just like their are different types of bait for different fish... there are different types of content can be used to attract websites, social networks, bloggers, etc. and motivate them to link to you!

    Kickass content = Linkbait

Linkbuilding is any deliberate effort that gets people to link to your content. It is an effort that you do AFTER you have built kickass content or linkbait.

Linkbuilding might include: writing to other webmasters, asking them to consider adding a link to your site in their resource list, asking them to consider a blog post about your content.

Linkbuilding done without kickass content or linkbait is a way to waste a lot of money or time.

    PM'd you EGOL.

Do you rely on people finding the kickass content on their own, or do you somehow make them aware of it? If you make them aware, would that be considered assbaiting?

Obviously, if no one knows the url address of "kickass" it can't do too much "kick-assing" until someone finds it, reports it, and the flood gates open up.

Ideally whispering the thought to a couple "trusted sources" will do... if you don't have any - that's what SBM domain do best.

I promote it in obvious locations on my site and send email about it to a few people who will likely promote it.

I have a good idea where the first links will come from whenever I make new content.

Here is some conversion linkbait for you to look at. This is the sort of stuff you submit to SBM sites.

Yeah it's an example of a masterpiece, I'm glad you liked it. This is the kinda stuff I wanna make, but something like that will take time. Hey how long would it take you to write something like this?

Yeah, it is a masterpiece. As a matter of fact, I think you just got them a job writing some pages on my new site. I think their style will do well on the new wiki site I'm building now, and I'm going to contact them. I'll tell them you sent me.

To write like that takes getting into a groove and a mindset. That folksy-humor style is similar to mine when I am writing blog-type articles. One of my favorite things I've written was about my first venture to a poker room on my own called "Ditz" - her not me.

It takes a real twist to make the folksy style sell rather than just tell a story. To make the reader feel drawn in is a great talent. I will admit, as it got near the end, I was starting to skim, but hated to miss anything.

Most of what I write is low literacy level health ed. Which can be areal challenge too and why I enjoy it.

PS Love the new avatar. I want an avatar.
