I have just tried this. I wonder if we can learn anything about it.

Try typing "Something" into google. The first result in the first page is
http://www.something.com
It is a single file titled "something" with only one word in it "Something"

Clearly this page has a keyword density of 100%, keyword prominence of 100%, title density of 100%, and so on...!

Clearly all the talk about keyword density and prominence is far from correct, otherwise this page wouldn't have shown at all!

I wonder what would happen if we had tried this with a competitive keyword, like games, or seo, or books...

What do you think?

I've seen this before and it is pretty funny. But I've always wanted to ask someone who has found this on their own. Why were you searching simply for "Something" and what type of site were you hoping would come up.

As a rule, 80% of people using Search Engines don't have any idea what they are searching for! They just type anything into the edit box and see what comes up!

So is that what you did then...Just typed in a random word?? I don't believe that 80% of people aren't looking for anything. I'm figuring you are just joking by the smiley face.

That domain has a PR6 with over 300 backlinks. That's why it's ranked high.

This is ludicrous. Even with so many backlinks it is hardly a useful page for Googles faithful users. But very interesting and well worth doing a few tests with other words.

I doubt that Google places much consideration on the usefulness and faithfulness of the users. The page is there simply because of the anchor text and number of backlinks.

And by the way the page has no meta tags at all so the ranking has nothing to do with them.

Try doing a google search for hulkmobile and you'll see that I'm getting turfed by hulkmobile.com - tough to compete against that! ;-)

Hmmm... just for curiosity I did a search for Hulk... after the top spots occupied by the giant movie companies... what do I see on position #5? A blog done by some kid!!!

Yea, blogs are powerful - even more ironic is that he took a break for about 6 months on his blog ... but it lives on - we've had a few "friendly" Email exchanges "debating" who the "real Hulk" is! ;-)
