How Much
I will not ask how much this board was sold/purchased for because that is really none of mine nor anyone elses business. However it does make me a little curious about selling a website or forum. I have several sites and also run a forum. I have no plans on selling the forum at the moment since it is really worth nothing. I have about 80 registered users and about 150 posts. I just started it a month or so ago. But, should I ever consider it, what would one go for?
I know this is completely dependent on how many active users there are and what the subject of the forum is. So, I'm not looking for a solid number but instead am curious; how does a person appraise a site? Do you look at visitors and say that each unique visitor is worth $X.XX and returning visitors are worth $X.XX? Etc.... Steve-O |

It's pretty much based on unique visits & how active current members are.
The amount for which this forum was sold will remain private. With 150 posts and 80 registered users I'm not sure it would be worth all that much my friend, but continue building and one day it wil be. |

Hearing that you sold SEOchat made me think. Maybe in a couple of years I'll have the traffic and maybe a buyer. |

I think a businesses value is according to how much it nets. For example, if a business nets $12,000 a year and you pay $12,000 then you basically work one year for free. Sometimes it's worth it if you are buying out the competition and it's just a side business.
Coca Cola had the opportunity many, many years ago to buy out Pepsi. Pepsi was going quickly down the drain. Coca Cola thought Pepsi was probably going out of business so they didn't buy Pepsi. MISTAKE!!!!! This is why you see LOTS of Coca Cola stuff in antique stores and hardly any Pepsi. Pepsi didn't have the $$$ for advertising. |

Why sell that board? You must be making good money out of affiliate programs already and that too month after month. |

"video gamers aren't consumers"...
r u crazy??? video gamers are HUGE consumers just ask Sony and M$ and Nintendo.... shoot gamers consume more soda, microwave pizzas, candy bars and other junk than.... than.... i dunno... but they are HUGE consumers. gamers are always looking for the NEXT thing and thrive on 'disposables' they conguer and dispose... use and dispose and they do it obsessively... that board is worth guite a bit. and nintendo prob knows it too. he's prob just trying to see if anyone is interested in making his payday... hehe |

I agree with Gail.... If I was going to buy a site I would want to know how much it takes in...
My price would be based upon that alone (plus maybe the trend - rising, falling - and the competition and liferange of the topic) However, in the back of my mind I would want to buy a site that I could improve... I would not factor that into the price or mention it to the seller but that would be my real bonus in the end. Anybody got one for sale? I'm interested in an up and running affiliate site with an outdoor recreation theme. |

I think you are making a mistake if you believe that you buy something based on how much it is presently making. Maybe the board makes absolutely nothing because the person running it started it for fun and really doesn't know much about AM and probably could care less.
I think you buy a board or site based on potential. I think this board was purchased based on its potential. |

The way I do it, if I am on a performance based program with a client and they want to purchase the domain and site outright then I charge for 2 years the monthly average payment to my company. or the average they have been paying us *24

ilili -point taken but I was really thinking of higher priced items - I forgot about candy (I was lacking my daily chocolate fix)
EGOL - You hit the nail on the head regarding what to look for when buying a site. Regard buying an up and running site, are you referring to one that has affiliates selling their products or is an affiliate selling products? seo guy - I've heard about that, but I have paid much less. Always stay friends with your competitors and when they are burnt out - buy them. |
