    Domain Age concerns when transferring

    Hi guys,

It's been awhile but I decided to come pick your brains.

I have to renew my domain in about 14 days and I've been mulling over some things and would like to hear your opinions.

In the past year, I've switched web hosts. No big deal except that this domain was registered through my old host rather than through my current registrar. This is my oldest domain and I never bothered moving it in the past.

It's the only domain not with my current registrar and it would be nice to keep everything in the same place. Since I'm no longer using their hosting services, it seems a bit pointless to keep them for one domain name registration every few years.

Enter my predicament. This domain is a little over four years old and ranks extremely well. If I elect to transfer this domain to a new registrar I will obviously lose that age.

How dramatically do you think that will affect me? I know for certain that its current age has helped its rank dramatically.

It shouldn't affect you, assuming that the domain is registered to you and not your registrar.

I've moved domains from one registrar to another on several occasions, and never seen any movement in the SERPs as a result.

Likewise, you've already moved the hosting, and your content isn't about to change (I assume), so neither is there any indication that the registrar move is a sign that ownership has changed.
