When taking into account SEO, what is the best site to host a personal blog? Wordpress.com, Tumblr, Blog.com, Blogger.com? Or is it best to just buy a domain and host and do it yourself?

I want to create a personal blog, and want to optimize the site as much as possible.

Question: What is the best site to have my personal blog, when taking into account SEO? Is it best for me to register my own domain and host it myself? Or, is it okay to just use wordpress.com or blog.com? Any opinions on what is the best site to have a personal blog?

I want the blog to be authoritative, so that outgoing links give as much "juice" as possible.

wordpress or blogger are your best choices. If you want to use a hosted solution is up to you, if you want to use custom plugins etc for wordpress then you should get your own hosting.

If it's really a personal blog and unless you have 6,289 friends like a lot of people..(well kids and spammers) have on FaceBook and they all come to check out your personal stuff. It's a waste of time to pay too much attention to ranking a personal blog. A personal blog shouldn't be created for linking purposes. But then if you do have 6,289 friends that visit your personal blog daily. It's not a bad plan...but you don't.
So yea I think it' a poor strategy.
