Backlink not working
Hi,
I'm pretty new to SEO and was wondering if someone could just give me a quick pointer on why a certain backlink may not be working correctly because even though the inbound link appears to have finally been indexed by Google, it hardly seems to show up in the search results even with the most obvious keywords. The inbound link itself is from meetup.com, which is a pretty strong domain.
The link itself is to my site, Venyooz, and it's contained in the Meetup Application Directory (can't post URLs being a new user).
The Meetup page, however, doesn't show up in the search results for "meetup venyooz" and even when searching for "meetup application venyooz", it only shows up in the "Results for similar searches" section.
Thanks a lot!
Alex

With your limited information, I found
"106 Miles - Southern California Edition"
is that what your talking about?
It's hard to answer your question with-out the correct information.
The link on a page shouldn't show up when that term is searched, the site it links to should. Otherwise one would just need to create links on your own page to rank...it doesn't work that way.
How are you thinking backlinks work?
or I've grossly misunderstood your question.

Sorry for the confusing post.
The problem I'm having is that Meetup's link to my site seems to be doing very poorly on Google and I can't figure out why. They are linking to me from their "Meetup Application Directory" page. I would expect that a search for "venyooz meetup" would result in having the "Meetup Application Directory" page come up at some point, but it's not even in the first 3 pages of the results, even though I would think it's higher quality than most of the links that do show up.
And, as I was saying, if you search for "venyooz meetup application", the linking "Meetup Application Directory" doesn't even show up in the regular results, but instead is in the "similar searches" section, which again leads me to believe that there is something wrong with that link...

perhaps you'll show up under this phrase:
"Welcome, Meetup Organizers! Find the perfect venue for your meetup here! | Venyooz"

Right, but what I was hoping for with that link from meetup is that it would rank higher.
I also don't see the meetup as a linking domain in the Open Site Explorer - any idea why?

It does come up high, but it depends on the term you use...
try searching "Meetup Organizers Venyooz"
it's #1
when reviewing these results keep the page title in mind.

Yes, I know my page comes up high with those keywords. I'm wondering why the linking page (on Meetup) doesn't come up...
Any idea why the meetup domain doesn't show up in Open Site Explorer?
