Suggestions for optimizing
Hi,
I'm having a problem getting anywhere in the search engines that aren't fed by Google. I have excellent rankings for some very competitive terms on Google, but I'm not where within reach on alltheweb, altavista, etc.. Can someone name some major differences between the two algorithms, or what they have seen to better optimize their site for other search engines. Unfortionately when I began SEO, I researched for Google, and optimized my sites for Google assuming that algorithms must be similar, and would soon pick me up. I'm listed in inktomi, yahoo directory, and a few others, so I don't think I'm missing any major components except for some minor things. Thanks a lot Zak |

Zak,
If you're coming up in good positions in Google, I wouldn't change anything to try to get traffic from the other SE's. You may spoil your rankings in Google and at the moment it's the SE that gives the most traffic. Gringo. |

Not to mention, the other search engines all use a google-like algo. If you are well optimized for google, you are probably well optimized for the other search engines too!]

I have same problem... as I've got all the traffic from Google and only few visitors from other engines from time to time. Thing which help me was a Zeal, I qualify for free listing and when I've got there I start to get visitors from MSN and Looksmart, maybe not in such high amount as from Google but any visitor is precious ;) so if your site informative and not commercial you can try this as well.
Also lately I start to get visitors from Scrubtheweb... probably they improve their algoritm somehow. |

Hi there,
It's true the search listings landscape over at All the Web and Altavista has changed quite dramatically since the paid inclusions started playing their role. What were once databases full of free listings are now populated by paid for results in some form or the other. Therefore a paid inclusion is something that you might consider. It might also go some way to explaining why your position in Google is good and other search engines not so good. The other benefit of putting a couple of pages in the respective paid-inclusion programmes is that you will be able to tweak them every couple of days and really see the effect of your search engine page tweaking. I hope this helps, best of luck. Glyn. |
