Submission confusion

Okay, this is probably a really stupid question, but here goes.

I have submitted my home page to Inktomi, does Inktomi spider the rest of the pages as Google does or do I have to submit more than one page?

Also the same question regarding Alta Vista if anyone knows.

Thanks

Steve

It will *eventually* spider the rest of the pages, although it could take a lot lot longer to do so than submitting them would. However, I never submit more than the homepage. The whole site gets spidered at some point. Usually a couple of months later for me. Not sure about av.

Time, time, time.... that is what it will take to get them all properly indexed. There are no limits on resubmitting though so I would at least do that for around 5 - 10 top end pages...

No ideas about AV; I just don't get that engine at all!

Sam

Did you pay for inclusion?

Steve,

How did you submit to Ink? Free listing or PFI? How much did you pay?

Donna's right, just takes time to get the whole site spidered. If you are really looking to get a quick fix on certain pages be sure to submit those as well, and let Slurp spider the rest of the pages eventually. Linking is so important. As for Altavista, I stopped paying for their inclusion over a year ago on some of my sites. Since then it seems that I have gotten spidered for free. So no complaints there. Also, something that I found that seems to work in one test of mine, is to submit those pages that you have links from (internal or external), that go the pages that you submit to Inktomi. This way Ink considers those linking pages as part of the ranking weight for the page you are trying to promote.

Thanks for your info, the thing is, I submitted 12 monthes ago and as far as I can see only two of my pages are in the index (out 500). The linking structure is good, so I don't understand why Ink hasn't included all of the pages?

For Alta Vista I always do the free submit and all my sites quickly get in and go right to the top. I love Alta Vista!

Ben, for Inktomi in your excellent article, you mentioned the backdoor. ;-)

Now my Japanese isn't too good. ops: But have you tried submitting that way and did it work? How fast do the sites get in and do you need to submit each page?

Gail can't you find the site in Google (or Alta Vista), and translate it?

I just submitted to both, not sure if it'll have any impact, but it's free and I'm learning French and Japanese at the sametime

Question

I went ahead and submitted using the link that asked for less info since I'm still learning Japanese. And is that French that I'm also learning? ;)

What do you mean by:
Gail can't you find the site in Google (or Alta Vista), and translate it? :

Do you think I should submit to both? And should I do individual pages on each web site?
