Small Local SEM Seminars being conducted?

We are working on outlining a Local SEM awareness seminar series, have a background in Entertainment seminar marketing want to know if anyone else is conducting similar seminars?

I toyed with the idea a few years ago but it is very labor intensive. For every 4 visitors who say they are going to attend only 1 shows up. You end up having to be a sales person rather than an educator because you are trying to fill the room.

I decided to do private one on one trainings (95% over the phone) and it has been very lucrative. It also helps because I have good Google SERPs for the term, "search engine optimization training" thus I have credibility.

People also get a lot more value out of using their web site as the example site. Sometimes they find it hard to visualize how to apply standard SEO techniques if you are using someone else's site as an example.

Thanks for the insight, the unique aspect of this venture is that we also have a business development side of the company that does event registration. We are going to have them allocate a % of their time to sign people up.

HOw did you kickstart this venture? I want a piece of this lucrative marketing pie is this a matter of keyword optimization (I'm basically saying a niche somwhere), or developed through personal network.

Most of my business comes from referrals from web site design firms and referrals from very happy clients. My suggestion is to find five or six good web design firms that don't know how to do SEO. Fix their SEO at no charge and the referrals will start rolling in.

Yes, some of the business comes from my good SERPs too. The good SERPs for "Search Engine Optimization Training" help with my credibility and brings in one or two clients a month.

I also require all clients to take my training even if they hire me to do their SEO. I have found out when I don't require clients to take my training, it comes back to haunt me. My training's last exactly two hours. I've trained people from Australia to Italy. Using Skype makes it painless.

I'd consider sharing my agenda and the web sites I use in the training's with you. Even give you a discount on the training. Although I'm sure you would not learn much more than how do the training. There certainly is enough to go around, so I'm willing to share with other ethical SEO professionals. My web site URL is in my profile. I'm on the U.S. West Coast.

There aren't very many SEM business models that are working successfully out there. I like the fact that our company is remaining a small independent source for online marketing. Anyone have a solidifed competitive analysis process for keyword review?
