It was surprising to receive a visitor from Altavista.
Are people actually Typing Altavista into the browser? Has anyone gotten traffic from any of the following this year: Altavista |

Well my search engine is being sent visitors from heaps of other search engines and our stats show that as yet (Three years now) we have yet to get a visitor from Altavista. Just the other week I thought it was rather neat because I sent our webspider into the Altavista site to try and help them get some visitors by making the site available to be found on my search engine. To be honest I don't think any visitors have gone off to them from us though. So I guess it doesn't even qualify as a link referral.. Grin.. The last few days worth of stats I have printed off below for you to see. The stats are like this: Google 2910 68.28% Other 1194 28.02% Msn 57 1.34% Yahoo 48 1.13% Dogpile 27 0.63% AOL 18 0.42% Netscape 2 0.05% Excite 2 0.05% MetaCrawler 1 0.02% Webcrawler 1 0.02% So of the weekly 650,000 visitors that we get, around 4000 are coming into us from other search engines. |

Seems like their traffic (Altavista, Lycos, Excite, Webcrawler, Go, and AlltheWeb) don't exist anymore nowadays.

So did I. At least Altavista. See also: http://www.search-this.com/search-engine-decoder/ But ummm, we can see Altavista is some sort of doorway for Yahoo+dmoz, an affiliate if you will. We may get traffic from them but there's no need to optimise for them separately.

If I added up all the traffic for last year from those search engines... it might add up to 0.5% of all traffic.

Question posited: "Is anyone STILL getting traffic from the Classic Search Engines?"
Response: Yup! But it is miniscule. ![]()

I get traffic from ALL search engines. The smaller/older ones have a lot less but it's still appreciated. Outside of Google, Yahoo, and MSN, all the other ones combined might equal MSN for me.
